The movie was really filmed at Glenn Mills, the juvenile detention facility featured. Some of the actors were real juvenile delinquents. They were cast as part of a program to get juvenile delinquents back on the right path through work, in this case acting. Although the drama in the story of van Gogh's Cool! is mediocre (in acting and writing) and more suitable for a TV series the film is worth watching on DVD at home or at school (for discussion/entertainment) for its insights in underground Dutch society, its visual style and hip hop music.
The film gives an interesting (not always credible) insight in the Dutch criminal scene and crime prevention.
Also the visual style of the film (very much shot like a documentary from time to time, a blueish filter and rhythmic editing). The nicely flowing Dutch hip hop music (with some music video clip scenes on the beach in Scheveningen) gives the film just the right vibe..
