Maura Tierney is on course to return to TV

21 December 2009 1:00 PM, PST | AfterEllen.com | See recent AfterEllen.com news »

Good news for the holiday season: Maura Tierney is doing great.

The actress, who had to withdraw from new show Parenthood after a breast cancer diagnosis, is recovering nicely from her treatment and will return to her role in Rescue Me, according to the show’s producer Peter Tolan.

"We are just about finished writing the entire sixth season, which is about 10 episodes, and then there are nine more [for Season 7]”, he told People, “so we know we're going to bring back Maura Tierney, because we loved her and she loved us, which is even more fulfilling. She can take care of herself and come back.” Her episodes are on the shooting schedule for Spring 2010.

Tierney appeared in Rescue Me’s fifth season as Kelly McPhee, a rocker chick who worked her way up the ladder, so to speak, eventually finding a several-episode romance with Tommy (Denis Leary).

TV Bites: 'White Collar,' 'True Blood,' 'Lost,' 'Rescue Me'

20 December 2009 10:17 AM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

USA has given the go-ahead for a second season of "White Collar."

The hour-long drama's creator Jeff Eastin first broke the news on Twitter.

The series, which posted 5.6 million viewers for its winter finale, centers on Neal Caffrey (Matt Bomer), a con man who escapes prison to eventually be caught by FBI agent Peter Burke (Tim DeKay) and work with him to catch other criminals.

--"Lost" may be returning on ABC on February 2, but DirecTV subscribers can catch six series specials, airing on consecutive Saturdays on Channel 101, beginning Saturday, Dec. 26.

The programs, derived from the season recap specials that originally aired on ABC, will include elements not seen before on TV such as DVD extras, behind-the-scenes footage, deleted scenes and music videos.

This marks the first promotional partnership between ABC and the 101, which has been airing first run episodes of "Friday Night Lights" via a deal with NBC. »

Tierney To Return To TV

19 December 2009 6:01 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Cancer-stricken actress Maura Tierney is planning to get back to to work - she's set to return to her TV show Rescue Me next year.

Production on Tierney's latest TV show, Parenthood, was halted in July to allow her to undergo a "medical evaluation" after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She subsequently ruled out a return to Parenthood and left TV bosses to re-cast the role.

But now producers at Tierney's previous TV show, firefighter drama Rescue Me, have revealed they plan to bring the actress back for a role in the upcoming seventh season, which is due to start shooting in 2010.

Executive producer Peter Tolan tells People.com, "We are just about finished writing the entire sixth season, which is about 10 episodes, and then there are nine more, so we know we're going to bring back Maura Tierney, because we loved her and she loved us, which is even more fulfilling. She can take care of herself and come back then."

Tierney's spokesperson adds, "(She) would love to come back to Rescue Me if possible."

The actress appeared in season five of the U.S. drama opposite Denis Leary. »

'Rescue Me' Wants Maura Tierney Back

18 December 2009 7:14 PM, PST | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

"Rescue Me" team is hoping that Maura Tierney could return to the show after the actress is well enough to get back to work. Tierney was diagnosed with breast tumor earlier this year and had to abandon her commitment to "Parenthood" although she had shot the pilot. Her role has since been given to Lauren Graham.

Nevertheless, Tierney is still a recurring on "Rescue Me" as Kelly McPhee. Executive Producer Peter Tolan told People during Hollywood Radio and Television Society luncheon that he has a plan to make McPhee come back for seventh season.

"We are just about finished writing the entire sixth season, which is about 10 episodes, and then there are nine more [for season 7]," Tolan said, "so we know we're going to bring back Maura Tierney, because we loved her and she loved us, which is even more fulfilling."

Our Favorite TV Moment of 2009

16 December 2009 5:00 PM, PST | Getback - TV | See recent Getback - TV news »

It's been a really great year for TV - the best in a long time, we think. So choosing only one moment is practically impossible. But after thinking about all the best bits on "Modern Family" and the twists in the season finales of "Mad Men" and "Rescue Me," we decided to cast our vote for something a little less cynical and more uplifting - "Glee."

Fat Guys at the Movies Ep. 144 – The Princess and the Fat

On This Week's Show: Kevin and Neil find themselves in not-so-familiar territory by not totally fighting about this week's movies. While Neil hasn't seen The Princess and the Frog, he and Kevin pretty much agree about the other new releases like Invictus (though Kevin berates Neil for taking so much time to examing The Lovely Bones and later rages about Peter Jackson's obnoxious cameo). Later in the show, they throw down a Fat Guy Five about their favorite hand-drawn Disney animated films, and in the process they also learn that they can't count. 'Gossip Girl': Big trouble on the Upper East Side when it returns in 2010

8 December 2009 1:51 PM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

"Gossip Girl" left us hanging Monday night with a car crash -- what is in store for our UESers in the new year? Video below.

According to the trailer below, it looks like Serena and Nate will finally be hooking up (again) and possibly in a coat closet of some sort. Blair and Serena appear to be fighting and it also looks like things are not hunky-dory for Rufus and Lily.

According to Andrew McCarthy's description of the episode he directed, there's a "Nine 1/2 Weeks" thing happening, which implies to us that somebody has her eyes set on Rufus. Couple that with the casting of Sherri Saum ("Sunset Beach," "Rescue Me," "In Treatment) as Holland Kemble, a powerful business executive-turned-Upper East Side trophy wife, and we think we're got ourselves some drama for the grown-ups.

"Gossip Girl" is on hiatus until further notice, as the CW is trotting out »

FX Network has announced that it's ordered an additional 13 episodes of its acclaimed series Sons of Anarchy for what will be the show's third season. If you haven't seen it, Sons of Anarchy explores a slice of Americana by which most people are at once appalled and yet fascinated.

Starring Charlie Hunnam, Katey Sagal and Ron Perlman, the show is an adrenaline drama with darkly comedic undertones that showcases a notorious outlaw motorcycle club (Mc) and its desire to protect its livelihood while ensuring that their simple, sheltered town of Charming, California remains exactly that: charming. The Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club must confront threats from drug dealers, corporate developers, hate groups and overzealous law officers. Behind the Mc's familial lifestyle and legally thriving automotive shop is a ruthless and illegally thriving arms business.

'Sons of Anarchy' Gets Season 3

2 December 2009 8:20 PM, PST | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

About 4.33 million viewers hooked their eyes on "Sons of Anarchy" season 2 finale on Tuesday, December 1. It was FX Network's number-one program for the night, the top-rated show on television in the 10:00 Pm time period and also the most-watched episode ever for "Sons", surpassing its season two premiere. For that, "Sons" is granted a third season order.

"The success of Sons of Anarchy is very gratifying and the show has become a bona-fide hit," said FX President and General Manager John Landgraf. "The critics have recognized Sons as one the best series on television, and the show has earned its place alongside FX's great drama series The Shield, Nip/Tuck, Rescue Me and Damages. Creatively, this season was spectacular and all credit goes to Kurt [Sutter] and the incredible cast led by Katey Sagal, Charlie Hunnam and Ron Perlman."

The Naughts: The Television Show of the '00s

2 December 2009 10:11 AM, PST | ifc.com | See recent IFC news »

"It's not TV, it's HBO" goes the tagline, and in the '00s, TV was "The Sopranos," a series that not only defined a channel but, more fundamentally, a decade's worth of living-room drama.

When David Chase's series about the titular New Jersey crime family debuted in 1999, it came equipped with a conceit that seemed, dare I say, a tad too cute -- a mob boss balancing his two "families," and buckling under the stress of it all? Yet cute was something the program almost never wound up flirting with, instead carving out a position as both a key member of America's controversial modern gangster-fiction canon alongside "The Godfather," "Scarface" and "Goodfellas," as well as the prime example of the small-screen's potential to be an artistic venue equal to that of the cinema.

Ten years ago, no self-respecting critic would have made such a case, but bada bing, at the close of this decade, »
