Serenity (2005) More at IMDbPro »

The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, that you instead use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

A man and a woman kiss passionately (both their shirts are off but she is in a bra), then they fall off the screen and the man's sister's head pokes in from the ceiling.

A lot of mild to fairly explicit sexual references.

Occasional moderate sexual slang.

Violence & Gore

There is a surprising scene where a teacher suddenly stabs a pen through a girl's head (-SPOILERS- this is a dream).

A man shoots a man who is being abducted in the chest, he dies.

Some men are beaten in a heist. A girl fights many men, and severely beats many of them, some are bystanders. One man is forced to stab himself.

A man skews a man with a sword. Two men fight. A man punches a man in the throat.

We see a hologram of a Reaver attacking a woman.

Some intense spaceship fights.

A man gets shot in the back. He touches the wound and we see his fingers coated in blood.

A woman gets shot in the neck.

Some battle clips of a woman against a room of Reavers.

There is a lot of strong violence throughout but it is usually fairly bloodless. The one exception is the Reavers, who are quite frightening and always have numerous bloody cuts on their hideously deformed faces. Most kids 12 and over will probably be okay, though.

Profanity

Several curse words are uttered in Chinese.

Several uses of "hell," one use of the "s" word.

Several people smoke in a bar.

Jayne smokes a cigar.

There are several sudden Reaver attacks.

A holographic woman is eaten alive by a Reaver offscreen, screaming is heard. Later the attack is replayed, but is cut shorter, and is not seen.

A man in suddenly impaled mid-sentence.

Several sudden scenes show the faces and sides of reavers that may make some jump.

A large battle with reavers and humans is rather intense and may frighten some.

The Reavers have a zombie-like appearance, which may frighten some.
