Morgan Freeman Wants Catwoman in The Dark Knight Sequel

9 December 2009 1:32 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

While out promoting Invictus this week, Morgan Freeman also fielded questions about the rumored sequel to The Dark Knight. Freeman initially told MTV that "Batman is completely out of [his] mind," but then he offered assurance that Christopher Nolan would be back to direct, and that his character, Lucius Fox, would likely return, as well.

I know that — I just know — that Chris is working on number three. He couldn't possibly not be.

What I don't know is how that story is going to play out — I mean, where it's going to be and who's going to be in it. There's a good chance he would incorporate Lucius Fox and [Michael Caine's character] Alfred.

Freeman qualified his statements by saying that he is "not waiting by the phone" for a call about Batman 3. Even so, he did have a villain in mind for the film.

I want to see Catwoman.

Of course, if you've been in a hole somewhere and still haven't seen Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins sequel, be aware this is spoiler filled. Watch the video embedded after the jump, followed by the lyrics. The video: Behind the scenes: All characters played by Mark Douglas Music by: barely jake Lyrics: Kid Batman! Why is he running, Dad? MTV recently spoke to Morgan Freeman, who played Lucius Fox in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, while he was on the rounds promoting Invictus. Freeman says he hasn’t heard anything on the status of Batman 3, but he has a feeling director Christopher Nolan will be working on it. “I know—I just know—that Chris is [...] »

The Best Films of the Decade (aka "The Naughties")

Best Films Of The Decade (aka The Naughties) From Alex & Terry

List # 1

By Alex Simon

When Terry and I initially discussed writing these lists, I had a tough time thinking back on 20 films over the past decade which I was really taken with, thinking that movies have sunk so low over the past ten years, that even choosing a dozen would be a short-order job. Thirty minutes into it, my list had nearly 60 titles! After much cutting, pasting, and re-cutting and pasting, here are my top 20 films (in no particular order) of the first decade of the 21st century, dubbed by many as “the naughties.” --A.S.

1.No Country for Old Men (Coen Brothers, 2007) An elegiac blend of stark beauty and full-throttle despair from two of our finest filmmakers, set in the contemporary American West. Every frame is damn near flawless, and would have been an even more perfect vehicle for the late Sam Peckinpah. »

Freeman: There Will Be a 'Batman 3'

8 December 2009 10:00 PM, PST | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

With Inception still in production, one assumes The Dark Knight follow-up might actually be the furthest thing from director Christopher Nolan’s mind.

But that’s probably not the case, insists actor Morgan Freeman, who appeared in the recent Bat-movies, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

"I know — I just know — that Chris is working on number three," Freeman told MTV recently. "He couldn't possibly not be."

Obviously, there is no shortage of executives and fans who would like to see another Batman movie in production. However, standing in the way is Inception, which is a mammoth project, as well as the uncertainty regarding who the next villain should be, although Catwoman and the Riddler are rumored to be the leading candidates.

Nolan also hasn’t exactly shown unabashed enthusiasm about helming another 'Batman' film, especially after Heath Ledger’s death left some potential story ideas up in the air. »

David Goyer Forecasts Future of FlashForward

6 December 2009 11:45 AM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

There was great news for fans of FlashForward last week: the drama delivered a suspenseful, well-paced, intriguing episode for the first time in a long time.

The installment, however, was quickly followed by bad news: the series won't return with new episodes until March.

Why the delay? Where does the show go from here? Producer/writer David Goyer spoke with Entertainment Weekly about it all, revealing a few FlashForward spoilers along the way. Excerpts follow...

On the new schedule: "We originally planned to come back in January, but about three weeks ago we sat down with ABC scheduling and looked at what our programming schedule would be like. And I think on serialized show like 24, Lost, and Prison Break the most important thing is to air consecutive episodes without repeats or preemptions... We’d rather bite the bullet, come back in March, and air all 13 episodes consecutively without preemptions."

Exclusive: 'FlashForward' creator David S. Goyer on the show's three-month hiatus and future

Fans of ABC’s FlashForward are buzzing about last night’s episode—and especially what they learned about the about the immediate future of the series after the episode was over. The sci-fi drama’s fall finale was an eventful affair, and you can read my recap of it in our TV Watch section. But the meaty three-minute tease of the second half of the season was pretty provocative, too. For starters, there was the intimation that another global blackout event is looming. Jeff Bridges reveals first Iron Man was made without a script

3 December 2009 11:43 AM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Iron Man is not a household name like, say, Batman or Superman so last year's film adaptation was a surprise smash, defying the negative predictions of analysts and going on to make $585million at the box office.

This was more than the worldwide takes of Batman Begins, Superman Returns, either of the Hulk movies or any of the X-Men films.

Robert Downey Jr simply owned the lead role of billionaire Tony Stark who encases himself in hi-tech armour to become the eponymous hero.

And it's even more surprising to learn that Iron Man was made without a finished script being in place. That's according to Jeff Bridges, who played Stark's treacherous second-in-command Obadiah Stane, who adapts his boss's prototype armour to become the villainous Iron Monger.

In an interview with InContention.com, Bridges reveals: "They had no script, man. They had an outline. We would show up for big scenes »

Tom Hardy Talks Mad Max

2 December 2009 11:24 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

In recent months there have been many rumblings about Mad Max 4, specifically entitled,  Mad Max: Fury Road. All have been covered here on Screen Rant – but the main one is that British actor Tom Hardy (Bronson) was being eyed to replace Mel Gibson in the titular role of Max.

No official announcement has been made about the role, but Hardy spoke exclusively with MTV about his possible appearance in the film – and he seems to be as uncertain (or unforthcoming) about the details of the film (which is due to shoot down-under next year) as director George Miller and Mel Gibson.

MTV’s Josh Horowitz quizzed the actor about the film and Hardy stated that he was far from a lock for the film:

“George hasn’t actually confirmed that. It’s strongly coming in my direction. I would be preparing for that role.”

Concept Posters for Idris Elba’s Legacy

2 December 2009 1:26 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Rising star Idris Elba seems to be the man of the moment. Last week it was announced he would be joining the cast of Marvel’s Thor, then the first photos of his action movie The Losers were made public, and now the concept posters for his upcoming film Legacy have made their way online.

The film’s official Twitter page have released three concept posters which appear to be something of a rarity as they are not simply airbrushed photographs or photoshopped floating heads on a black background, but rather actual artistic posters.

Idris Elba not only stars in Legacy but is the film’s executive producer. Written and directed by young British Nigerian filmmaker Thomas Ikimi, Legacy co-stars Eamonn Walker (Lord of War), Monique Gabriela Curnen (The Dark Knight), Richard Brake (Batman Begins), and Clarke Peters (The Wire).

Is Idris Elba Playing Jimmy Stewart To Thomas Ikimi's Hitchcock? Fantastic New Poster Art For Legacy Says Yes.

1 December 2009 8:54 AM, PST | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

Is it fair to compare a young, second time film maker with one of cinema's all time greats?  No, of course it's not.  But if Thomas Ikimi's ultra low budget debut Limbo wasn't enough to convince you that he has aspersions towards making the same sort of high concept thrillers that made Hitchcock famous, well, a quartet of concept posters for his sophomore effort are here to make that point clear.  Titled Legacy, the film stars The Wire's Idris Elba in the lead and the just-released poster art has that classic Saul Bass influence all over it.

Here's the press release that went out went we first covered the film back in May:

'Heroes' recap: Shadowy Shadows

1 December 2009 4:05 AM, PST | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

“This whole night was like a bad Fellini film,” was how Gretchen summed up the most recent episode of Heroes. Okay, she was actually talking about her and Claire’s night in the Sullivan Brothers carnival. But either way, she was wrong, because a bad Fellini film would have been perfection compared to last night. Federico Fellini made plenty of bad movies, but his bad movies were never boring, mundane, or static. They were completely bats--. Just look here. Or here. Or here. Or here. Context doesn’t help! I’ve seen Satyricon five times, and I still can’t »

Reynolds: Green Lantern Isn’t ‘Labored Origin Story’

1 December 2009 2:33 AM, PST | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

Self confessed Marvel/DC fanboy, Ryan Reynolds has been talking up the Green Lantern again, and this time he’s shedding a little light on the pace of the film and the direction it might take. Speaking to MTV, Reynolds was keen to stress that while this movie covers Green Lantern’s origins to some extent, it isn’t held back by them.

“It is [an origin story] to a certain degree, but it’s not a labored origin story, where the movie [truly] begins in the third act,” he explained. “The movie starts when it starts. We find out Hal is the guy fairly early on, and the adventure begins.”

This is something I’m quite pleased to hear. Don’t get me wrong, origins certainly have a place in comicbook films, and they definitely make the material accessible to the uninitiated, but in my humble opinion, if I could have trimmed 20- »

Katie Holmes: Tom Cruise Will Be a Great 'Sytycd' Judge

Judges Mary Murphy and Adam Shankman are not the only people who love the idea of Tom Cruise being a guest judge on Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance", his wife Katie Holmes also supported the notion. The revelation was made by the Rachel Dawes of "Batman Begins" herself at the Dizzy Feet Foundation gala on Sunday, November 29.

When asked by Marc Malkin of E! Online at the backstage of the event held at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, the 30-year-old actress gushed, "He would be great. He really would." It is still unclear whether she had the chance to talk with Murphy at the gala about Cruise's possible role. But, Murphy has stated at the red carpet that she will try to do so, promising "If I can just slide my way in there, I will."

Why Superman Is On Hold

27 November 2009 6:11 PM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

We've talked about this on the site before, but here's a pretty good rundown on why the Superman franchise is in (inexplicable) limbo right now.The project is on hold as the studio waits to emerge from legal limbo over the fate of the Superman heirs. It’s about who controls what divided rights going forward and who owes what to whom when. Warners may be trying to settle with the Siegel and Shuster families, who in 2013 will retrieve the copyright of the Superman material published in Detective Comics’ Action Comics Vol. 1, in order to merge all the Superman rights. As the studio is waiting to resolve the legal dispute, there’s no movement on the project. Production execs at Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. have been culling the various pitches that have come in, and are eager to start development on a sequel. Who knew, when Brandon Routh played »

Inception Goes Skiing

26 November 2009 7:35 PM, PST | Nolan Fans | See recent Nolan Fans news »

A few weeks ago, we heard that the Inception crew was packing their bags and heading north to a snow fortess in Kananaskis, Canada. The image that we saw earlier of this “abandoned ski hill” reminded some of us about the mountainous locations in Batman Begins. Anyways, we’ve been pretty clueless as to what has been happening up in Canada mainly because they’ve deployed a 24/7 security team around the filming location’s perimeter. The Calgary Herald reports that, that atop this snow mountain, Christopher Nolan wants the entire cast to learn to ski.

“He wanted all of the actors that were involved here, (Nolan) wanted them to learn to ski,” says Matt Mosteller, a professional ski coach and vice-president of marketing and sales for Resorts of the Canadian Rockies, which owns Nakiska, as well as B.C. resorts Fernie and Kimberley.

The King of Fighters Trailer Starring Ray Park and Maggie Q

26 November 2009 7:16 AM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Hey look, it's another low budget video game adaptation that's got direct-to-dvd written all over it! The King of Fighters is based on a series of fighting games that was first released for the Neo Geo console and in arcades back in the mid-'90s. Since the Neo Geo was the uber-expensive video game system that only rich kids had, I never really got into it, but they're still making new installments today so it's definitely got a following. The movie doesn't seem to be based on the plot of any one particular game, and according to Wikipedia [1], has a sci-fi twist that involves members of three legendary fighting clans who get transported to alternate dimensions where they must fight the inhabitants of each world. This promo trailer, however, doesn't convey much of a plot at all. Gordon Chan (Fist of Legend, The Medallion) is directing the movie, and it »
