This is When Eagles Strike, repackaged. Most of it is what you'd expect. Story, writing, sound--oh, the Foley artistry of it!--direction, cast, most of it. It repeatedly raises all of the usual questions, like, "Why didn't they just shoot him?" But you should watch it anyway because Christian Boeving's in it. Once again he proves himself an intelligent and skilled actor who really deserves better material. Much better material, and lots of it. Sure, he's the archetypical hunk: sure, he's a former model, a champion bodybuilder. But he also happens to be an actor, and a good solid one--a man who'd perform just as well with his shirt on, who'd make a convincing and compelling white-collar villain or blue-collar hero, or vice versa. I'd even settle for seeing him in a really interesting action/adventure, like, oh, Predator or True Lies or something. He ought to do an actual comedy some time, too--that is, on purpose; the laughs here come inadvertently from every cartoon convention drawn from every graphic novel you've ever seen. Still, this movie will have you squirming in suspense, writhing in anguish--mostly from wishing that Boeving could fight his way out of it and into a suitable vehicle. Well, anyway, Boeving carried this movie. He could carry a much bigger one, too. This is one great body who can also build a great body of work.
