Angie Harmon To Play Tess Gerritson's Popular Literary Detective

The star of "Law & Order" and "Women's Murder Club" is adding another crime show to her resume.

Actress Angie Harmon is set to star in the upcoming "Rizzoli," the pilot for a series based on the titular heroine Jane Rizzoli. The character, created by crime author Tess Gerritson, is a Boston detective who has been the focus of seven books.

Harmon portrayed conservative Assistant District Attorney Abbie Carmichael in "Law & Order" from 1998 to 2001, a role for which she received four Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. Harmon, a former model, has a history of playing characters with a tough reserve, but has also appeared in films such as "Agent Cody Banks" and "Fun with Dick and Jane."

Michael Wright is the executive vice president and head of programming for TNT, TBS and TCM. He addressed Harmon's casting in a press release from TNT.

Angie Harmon Set to Star in Rizzoli

Angie Harmon, who played leading roles on Law & Order and Women's Murder Club, is returning to the crime-solving world as the title character in Rizzoli, a new TNT pilot based on Tess Gerritson's popular Jane Rizzoli mystery novels. The pilot, which comes to TNT from Warner Horizon Television, is being written by Janet Tamaro (Bones, Lost) and executive-produced by Tamaro and Bill Haber's Ostar Productions (TNT's Nightmares and Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King, TCM's upcoming Moguls and Movie Stars: A History of Hollywood). Michael M. Robin (TNT's The Closer) will direct and executive-produce the pilot.

Oscar nominee Richard Jenkins is putting on his serious actor hat again to help Julia Roberts find herself in drama Eat, Pray, Love.The actor, who swings between crazy comedies such as Step Brothers and Fun With Dick And Jane, and award-baiting dramas such as The Visitor, will play a Texan befriended by Roberts in an Indian ashram as she voyages through self-discovery.
