There hasn't been much word regarding Simon Pegg's newest film, Paul, about two British slackers who decide to go to Area 51 in search of aliens after a trip to Comic-Con only to discover an actual alien. There's been one still released, which doesn't really show very much, and actor Jason Bateman talked about getting a gift from his Paul co-stars, but that's about it.
Apparently, even Pegg is aware of the lack of news, because he recently offered an update to his fans in the forum of his web-site.
Hi all
Thought you might like to hear how things are going on the Paul front. It's been a while since we wrapped now and with the absence of Lance B's video blogs, I guess things must seem to have gone very quiet. Rest assured the good (space)ship Paul is progressing apace. Lionsgate held a round of test screenings in the last couple days for Matthew Vaughn's big screen adaptation of the Mark Millar comic book series Kick-Ass. I'm not quite sure why they are testing the film, as I know the studio knows they have a great movie on their hands. Also, I heard about screenings in both Los Angeles and London. Lionsgate released a batch of character teaser posters, launched the film's official website iamkick-ass.com, and the trailer will be online on Sunday November 15th (at least according to the countdown clock, although the weekend date seems a bit odd). A friend called it "one of the best movies" he's "Ever Seen" and claimed that he got more of a movie high off of that than the first Matrix. Someone else called it a cross between Matrix and Shaun of the Dead (you will see that the Matrix »

One of my big films in 2010 is director Edgar Wright’s “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World”. As the director of “Spaced”, “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz”, Edgar Wright has proven that he’s one of the best directors working today. While I’d be interested in whatever project he chose to do as his next film, the fact that he’s making the fantastic comic book series by Bryan Lee O’Malley is just awesome. Anyway, people have been shown footage from “Scott Pilgrim” and the mini-reviews have been crazy. Director Jason Reitman pretty much lost his mind after seeing 30 minutes. And I’m beginning to figure out why.
I think the reason people are so excited for the film is Edgar Wright is pushing the boundaries of narrative storytelling. While every movie has moving cameras and interesting shots, I’ve heard rumors that “Scott Pilgrim” is going »

Actor Jason Schwartzman has spoken about performing his own stunts while filming his forthcoming role in Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim movie. The Funny People star plays archvillain Gideon in Scott Pilgrim Vs The World. "I had so much fun [on Scott Pilgrim]," Schwartzman told Access Hollywood. "I was working with two people I admire so much, Edgar Wright, [the director of] Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, and Michael Cera, who (more) »

Simon Pegg came a little late to the "Unseen Prequels" meme that's been bouncing around Twitter this week, but I stuck his "Star Wars" proposal along with Jon Favreau's submission up at the top of the list today just the same.
Also discovering a trend late today appears to be "Twilight" actor Peter Facinelli, who's been exploring new Bluetooth headset technology. He and his "Eclipse" director David Slade show up in the Twitter-Wood report today, as does Facinelli's co-star Alex Meraz. Check out their posts after the jump, along with some more Pixar costumes from Lee Unkrich, and an M.I.A. performance caught by Nicky Hilton during the Jimmy Choo shoe debut for H&M. It all happened in Twitter-Wood, and it's in the report for November 3, 2009.

Shaun of the Dead started a new trend of horror comedies that was once lost after the mainstream success of the Ghostbusters franchise in the late 80s. From there, films like Zombieland and Fido took the ball and ran with it. It was only a matter of time before the formula was used on something other than the zombie genre.
Enter Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, a new horror comedy in the works that puts the “teens killed by hillbillies in the woods” storyline on it’s head. The film shows what it’s like from the other end of the scale, and what if the hillbillies weren’t really all that evil.
Starring Firefly’s Alan Tudyk and Reaper’s Tyler Labine (what could become the American equivalent of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost), the film could help the genre mash-up of Horror Comedy grow some real legs, after Zombieland »

Back in August, Jason Schwartzman got cryptic when he addressed his upcoming "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" battle. Even though he could only hint at his role in the film's final fisticuffs, the star was keen on sharing his overall experience playing the evil Gideon.
In an interview with Access Hollywood, Schwartzman praised director Edgar Wright, as well as his Scott Pilgrim challenger Michael Cera for contributing to an enjoyable experience.
“I had so much fun [on ‘Scott Pilgrim’],” said Schwartzman. “I was working with two people I admire so much, Edgar Wright, [the director of] ‘Shaun of the Dead’ and ‘Hot Fuzz,’ and Michael Cera, who in my view is the best [actor] working. I got to learn how to sword fight and battle and I got to go up on the wires for some flying kicks and stuff.”
As the seventh and final evil ex-boyfriend of Ramona Flowers, Schwartzman's character is effectively the end boss of the film, »

While we don't typically like comedy slapped together with our horror around these parts, we'd be lying if we said that the new horror/comedy flick Tucker and Dale vs. Evil looked anything less than badass.
Just in time for Afm the new flick from Voltage Pictures, starring Alan Tudyk ("Firefly") and Tyler Labine ("Reaper") and directed by Eli Craig (The Tao of Pong), is sporting some sales art as well as a temporary trailer for you guys to dig on! Check it all out below!
Synopsis
In the vein of Shaun of the Dead, Tucker & Dale is a wild, wonky tale of two hillbilly buddies trying to survive their vacation in the woods when they are mistaken for killers by a gang of college kids. Our heroes valiantly save one of the college girls from drowning but are accused of wrongdoing. The chase ensues, not treating the students too well, »

Horror and comedy are two of my favorite genres and just like a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, I like when they are combined. Last month, Screen Rant writer Ross Miller did a series on horror films that were combined with other genres. One of those combinations was horror plus comedy and the movie he choose was Shaun of the Dead. Other great examples are the always popular Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness with Bruce “The Chin” Campbell.
Well today, courtesy of our friends at Bloody Disgusting, we have a new trailer for the upcoming horror/comedy film Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. If the film is half as funny as the trailer then I am really looking forward to seeing it. The movie stars Alan Tudyk (Firefly, Dodgeball) and Tyler Labine (Zack and Miri Make a Porno) as two redneck hillbillies that want to do nothing more than enjoy »

The trailer needs finesse but, boy, does it work. In anticipation of the American Film Market, Voltage Pictures has unveiled a look at Tucker and Dale Versus Evil starring Alan Tudyk ( Firefly ) and Tyler Labine ( Reaper ) and directed by Eli Craig ( The Tao of Pong ). Tudyk and Labine are two rednecks pals who are mistaken for killers by your archetypal college kids who are vacationing in the woods. How they're "mistaken" is revealed in the trailer and it does elicit a few good chuckles. It's a Shaun of the Dead for the killer hillbilly sub-genre, basically. We're open to it. And even though we wish the best (a theatrical run) for films we're eager to see, but this seems ideal for Anchor Bay or even Ghost House Underground, if the latter wants to take a leap into... »

Happy Halloween everyone! If you’re a regular Screen Rant reader you’ll have noticed (and hopefully read) our Halloween lead-up series called “Horror Plus.” If not, just so you know it’s a feature which sets out to showcase one film that combines horror with another genre. Each instalment will basically serve as a review of the film at hand, explaining why it’s such a good example of genre merging.
So far we’ve had Horror Plus Comedy: Shaun of the Dead, Horror Plus Sci-fi: Alien, Horror Plus Thriller: 28 Days Later and Horror Plus Crime: Se7en. And finally we come to our final installment which is Horror Plus Action.
So which film have we chosen which merges both the genres of horror and action so well? After much deliberation I decided to go with Stephen Norrington’s excellent 1998 comic-book adaptation, Blade, starring Wesley Snipes as the titular vampire killer. »

"Kick-Ass" actress Chloe Moretz was among those tweeting good thoughts to Nicolas Cage and his family following the death of his father August Coppola this week. A literature professor and the brother of director Francis Ford Coppola, he reportedly died following a heart attack on Tuesday.
In other tweets, David Slade slipped a fresh image into his Twitter feed of actor Xavier Samuel from "Eclipse," which he says is the first look at Samuel's character Riley in the film. A couple of "Twilight" actors tweeted last minute contemplations over their Halloween costumes, while Edgar Wright may be giving up altogether and Russell Brand decried jack-o-lanterns as symbols for the season. Check out what they all had to say after the jump. It's in the Twitter-Wood report for October 30, 2009.

Joe Cornish isn’t just the taller half of the UK’s favourite geek double act. Yes, Adam & Joe are brilliant but lately Joe has been forging a pretty impressive career in screenwriting.
It seems that he isn’t content with just co-writing the script for Spielberg’s Tintin: The Secret Of The Black Unicorn. His solo project has finally been confirmed to start shooting in February.
Attack The Block is about a group of Londoners that have to defend their tower block from invading aliens. Sci-Fi comedy is well up his street and I’m positive the script is littered with clever and obscure references from the entire spectrum of pop culture.
The film will be co-produced between Big Talk and Optimum. Will Clarke, CEO of optimum releasing is predicting big things.

Joe Cornish, known as one BBC's radio comedy duo with Adam Buxton, gears up for his "directorial debut" with Attack The Block. The film will show a group of south London bad lads contending with aliens who have invaded their council block.
Whether the film will be produced by Big Talk, Film 4 or Optimum is not clear yet. However it is known that Edgar Wright, Nira Park and James Wilson of Shaun of the Dead are on board for the project hopefully carrying over their award winning success into this film.
Future plans for Cornish also include working on Steven Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn and Ant Man again with Edgar Wright. Attack the Block promises a transmission of Cornish's popular humour mixed with his first performance as a director.

You may not know much about writer and soon-to-be-director Joe Cornish, but you might in the very near future. He co-wrote, with Edgar Wright, the screenplay for Steven Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Black Unicorn, which is currently in production. And he's also been working with Wright on his adaptation of Marvel's Ant-Man. And according to Empire, he will begin work in February on his own feature film, the very cool alien invasion flick Attack the Block. Attack the Block follows the story of a gang of south London teenagers who are forced to defend their tower block from alien invasion. It is described by Will Clarke, CEO of Optimum Releasing (the company backing the project), as one of the most "inventive and entertaining scripts" out there right now. The film's official synopsis says a bit more: An attractive young woman walks home through dark, dangerous »

"Twilight" actress Anna Kendrick has a clever friend who's not above impersonating an "Eclipse" actor to make out with unsuspecting prey, so next time someone walks up you at a club telling you they've been filming with David Slade recently, double-check IMDb. Slade, meanwhile, announced an "official" wrap to "Eclipse" filming yesterday, following last week's tweeted wrap by Christian Serratos.
Elsewhere in Twitter-Wood, Rob Zombie noted the passing of former Danzig drummer Chuck Biscuits with a memorial post. The World Series had much of Twitter's attention as Ice-t captured a picture from the stands and Paul Feig pondered the art sunflower seed spitting. You can catch all of that, a Dalek and Emmy Rossum's Ferragamo dress fears after the jump in the Twitter-Wood report for October 29, 2009.

Rating: 6.5 out of 10
British television comedy hasn't got a great track record when it comes to graduating to the film theatre, and some of the best shows – Rising Damp, Bottom, The League of Gentlemen – have translated into truly awful films. When Edgar Wright made Shaun of the Dead he took a different approach to his predecessors, using only a handful of elements from his sitcom Spaced to build new characters, setting and story. Paul King has done the same with Bunny and the Bull, which while no-where near as good as Wright's zombie comedy classic is still a lot better than we've come to expect from the usual tawdry journey from small to big screen.
Paul King directs The Mighty Boosh, which when it first aired in 2004 was a welcome breath of fresh air in »

When you see Nick Frost in films, often it’s alongside his buddy Simon Pegg in flicks like the zombie comedy ‘Shaun of the Dead,’ or action spoof ‘Hot Fuzz,’ but for his upcoming film ‘Pirate Radio,’ Frost breaks free from his comrade comfort zone to embrace a new character.
In the film, Frost plays Dr. Dave, a member of a band of rogue deejays who captivated British radio listeners in the ’60s, playing the music that defined a generation and boldly defying the government that tried to shut them down.
Nick Frost stars as 'Doctor' Dave in Richard Curtis' rock and roll comedy Pirate Radio, a Focus Features release.
“…It was good for me that I didn’t have the safety harness of being with my two best friends,” notes Frost, referring to Pegg and Wright. “And, I really had to pinch myself knowing that I have an acting »

The Twitter-Wood feed assembled after the jump is the fine work of Mr. Brian Warmoth, but he seems to have disappeared before finishing the evening's intro bump. So you're stuck with me, @geminibros, your friendly neighborhood MTV Movies Blog editor.
I may not have Brian's panache, but I can still fill you in on what's shaking in the Twitter-Wood today. Rob Zombie just wrapped up the audio commentary for the director's cut of "Halloween II," "Harry Potter" star Tom Felton decided on his Halloween costume -- I wholeheartedly approve -- and "Shaun of the Dead" writer/director Edgar Wright saw the Coen brothers' new one, "A Serious Man." I wholeheartedly approve of that as well. Meanwhile, Brian Lynch has the real scoop on the next "Spider-Man" villain and Sarah Silverman shares a downright baffling twitpic. Also, Tyrese Gibson shares his very special moment with Michael Jackson, clinching himself the top »

On the night of the big high school prom, the dead rise to eat the living, and the only people who can stop them are the losers who couldn’t get dates to the dance. Filled with a plethora of high school stereotypes, the group takes on a town for of brain hungry zombies and vow to save what’s left of the town from the adjacent power plant that seems to be the cause of the recent resurrections.
Those in the mood for a great zombie flick should pick this one up. Other critics have been quoted saying this film “makes Carrie look like Pretty in Pink,” though if you were to truly classify it, it’s much more like Shaun of the Dead meets Breakfast Club. Any fan of film who has seen dozens upon dozens of zombie movies knows the feeling of “how much ass they would kick if zombies were real. »
