What would happen if we really could record what a person sees? Would dealers sell mind's eye memories like Lenny Nero (Ralph Fiennes) does in Strange Days, or would editors make them into movie memorials like in The Final Cut? Thanks to a breakthrough by neurologists at the University of California, Berkeley, we're about to find out. At last month's Society for Neuroscience meeting in Chicago, researcher Jack Gallant presented »

Chicago – Does the fact that “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” is receiving a lavish 20th anniversary edition Blu-Ray release make anyone else feel old? Just me? Whether you’re old enough to remember the first “Vacation” or young enough to know Chevy Chase as “that old guy on Community,” this is a lavish collector’s set for a great holiday film timed for holiday shopping.
Blu-Ray Rating: 3.5/5.0
Warner Home Video has begun an interesting trend of making Blu-Ray sets for their most beloved films that almost feel more about the collectibles than the movie itself. In some cases (“Blade Runner: The Final Cut,” “The Wizard of Oz: 70th Anniversary Edition”), the disc itself includes enough bonus material and a lovingly remastered picture that the collectibles appropriately feel like a companion instead of the main draw. Such is not the case with the set for “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, »

Although it’s definitely not a popular opinion to express in certain circles these days, I am, for the most part, a Robin Williams fan. I appreciate the unbridled madcap energy of his stand-up act, as well as the nuanced, thought-provoking performances he’s given in such underappreciated films as “One Hour Photo,” “The Final Cut,” and Mark Mylod’s off-beat 2005 thriller “The Big White.” I do, however, avoid the talented comedian’s mainstream fare like the proverbial plague; anyone who has bore witness to the cinematic monstrosity that is “Rv” can attest to just how undeniably annoying Williams can be when he really puts his mind to it. Under the right circumstances, he excels at getting on my nerves. Despite my appreciation of Williams’ quieter, more subdued performances, I approached writer/director Bobcat Goldthwait’s 2009 pitch-black comedy “World’s Greatest Dad” with much apprehension. Suffice it to say, I »

Nick Stahl, Rose McGowan and Amy Smart will be attending Dylan's Wake, a new supernatural romance / indie movie that's shooting in Des Moines Iowa. It's directed by Omar Naim, the Jordanian director of 2004 Robin Williams sci-fi The Final Cut.The story sees Stahl play a young man working in a funeral party who decides to fake his own death to see who would turn up to his funeral (morbid much?). Two people attend: a junkie who believes that the man was an angel who would save the junkie's life, and the man's high-school sweetheart from ten years before. This apparently sets him off to solve a "ten-year old mystery".Shooting's already underway on location. A local casting call in Iowa describing it as "Good Will Hunting meets Jacob's Ladder", while McGowan reckons on her Twitter feed that it's a really well-written indie. Fingers crossed that it lives up to that hype. »

A couple of weeks ago when the trailer for Disney's Old Dogs [1] hit the web, I noted that Robin Williams really isn't funny anymore. While I've actually kind of liked him in some of the dramatic roles he's taken on as of late (Insomnia, One Hour Photo, The Final Cut), his recent comedies still leave much to be desired. Perhaps World's Greatest Dad can change all that? Written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait, I remember a lot of people saying that it was both dark and hilarious when it premiered at Sundance earlier this year. Robin Williams plays a high school poetry teacher who dreams of becoming a writer. When faced with a family tragedy, he secretly turns the situation to his benefit. I do worry that this is may be a movie that goes for shock value, playing off the novelty of having actors like Robin Williams and Daryl Sabara »

Do I really need to tell you how achingly, appallingly bad '8x10 Tasveer' is?
Director Nagesh Kukunoor is officially the Francis Ford Coppola of Bollywood - both the honchos started off with a stunning offbeat film (Hyderabad Blues/The Rain People) then fleshed out outright masterpieces (Teen Deewaren, Dor, Iqbal/ Godfather 1&2, The Conversation) and finally burned out with a big budget flick (Bombay to Bankok/Apocalypse Now).
Although 'Apocalypse Now' is still considered a masterpiece by many, Coppola never recovered from it's torturous shoot and has since delivered stinkers. Nagesh Kukunoor isn't quite far behind.
'8x10 Tasveer' is a below average thriller packaged as a glossy commodity. The film is so overblown and underwhelming, you'd wish you suffered from the Hero's curse of tapping into the mind of Mr. Kukunoor to figure out what he was thinking five minutes before he began writing the screenplay.

If you've caught George A. Romero at a convention appearance in the last year or so, he's quick to clarify that he has nothing to do with the remake of his now-classic film The Crazies. Yet, he's still listed as an "executive producer" anytime a new press release goes out. This weekend at the Fangoria Weekend Of Horrors in Chicago, he was asked during his panel exactly what his thought were on the new Crazies feature and what his involvement is exactly. Thankfully, the fiends over at Dread Central got his quotes!
“I just actually read the script for the first time this weekend while I was here. I was never involved with anything in creating the remake, and I have no involvement with the new version of The Crazies at all. I know they have me listed as one of the Executive Producers on the project, and honestly, I am not sure why. »
