While I was debating on whether or not to write a Dear John letter to Gossip Girl and the Gossip Girl writing staff, someone beat me to it and now I have to say my piece.
Out of Touch
Let's face it. Gossip Girl is not what it was during its first season. Blair is a complete cartoon, there are way too many guest stars in the show that already has nine people in the cast and there is little to any group activity among the core cast. With the latter, I don't mean that they have to get buddy buddy ala the Saved By The Bell gang, but if everyone is off dealing with their guest star lover of the moment then how can the characters ever interact with each other?
The same thing happened with The O.C. during it's second and third seasons. In an attempt to keep Marissa and Ryan together, »

After the Black Eyed Peas took up permanent residence at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for most of the first part of the year, the recent weeks have been wide open, allowing a number of interesting and esoteric tracks to make their way to the top of the heap. Last week saw Owl City's "Fireflies" take the pole position, and this week sees Jason DeRulo's "Whatcha Say" as the top song in the country. DeRulo becomes the fourth artist this year to top the chart with a debut single, Lady Gaga ("Just Dance"), Jay Sean ("Down") and the aforementioned Owl City. (Of course, coupled with the recent chart surge and the New York Yankees' World Series victory, Jay-z's "Empire State of Mind" will probably topple it next week.)
"Whatcha Say" is a pretty unlikely chart-topper. The tune is built around a sample of Imogen Heap's "Hide and Seek, »

Mischa Barton was left spooked during her Halloween festivities at the weekend (Sat31Oct09) - after a fellow clubgoer threw a drink over her.
The former The O.C. actress was partying in New York on All Hallows' Eve when she was soaked by a man who claimed the star had trodden on his foot.
According to RadarOnline.com, the actress retaliated by dousing the rude reveller with her own beverage.
But the upset didn't stop there - the website claims Barton's protective pal approached the guy and the confrontation turned nasty, with the pair brawling in the bar.
A source tells the site the man was eventually ejected from the venue with a "a gash to his head and his knee was all cut up".

Update, 9:12 a.m.: A rep for TNT just told us: "As with all of our series, TNT will evaluate the performance of Southland before deciding whether to order more episodes." ________ Anyone who watched the final season of The O.C. knows that Benjamin McKenzie is a true (hot, sweaty and scantily clad) fighter. And now his new, much-ballyhooed police drama Southland is living to fight another day. A TNT rep just confirmed to us that the cable network has picked up NBC's not-so-sloppy seconds and will air Southland in the new year. The series, from ER's John Wells and also starring Regina King and Tom Everett Scott, received acclaim from critics and fans alike before NBC pulled the plug... »

I didn’t think it was possible for a lesbian character to look so good in a power suit since Bette Porter, but Christine Woods has proven me wrong. This week, Woods spoke to The Advocate about her (awesome) initiation into primetime, major network lesbianhood as Janis Hawk, the federal agent star of ABC’s new drama FlashForward.
Woods is more than enthusiastic to be playing a lesbian for the first time in her career and pushing the limits of her acting experience. She describes Janis as a “tough broad” who “holds her own” in her predominantly male FBI squad based in La.
About playing gay for the first time, Woods gushes, “I love it,” and applauds ABC for having “some really great gay characters on a lot of their shows.”
Hmmm, I don’t know if they deserve that much applause — a certain platonic Calzona relationship and firing Dr. »

Days away from Halloween, the best PR tool for the next installment of the Twilight series - the New Moon soundtrack - debuts at #2 on Billboard's Top 200. Mass hysteria doesn't tend to accompany official movie soundtracks in these days of getting your music for free, but nevertheless, Twilight-magic prevailed, with tens of thousands of Twi-hards rushing to download this album in preparation for The Twilight Saga: New Moon mania. For this go-round, famed music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas (Grey's Anatomy, The O.C.) put together a perfect collection of songs and artists to usher any indie music aficionado into the dreary Fall doldrums. Hordes of Bella (Kristen Stewart) wannabes are already playing the soundtrack on loop, having sympathy pains for the loss of their Edwards (Robert Pattinson). 'Meet Me at the Equinox' is a perfect song for all that sympathy sorrow. This original* Death Cab for Cutie ballad, the first single off the record, »

Rachel Bilson has avoided becoming a fashion victim - by taking clothing tips from Ashley Olsen and Sienna Miller.
The former The O.C. star launched her own clothing line, Edie Rose, with Dkny Jeans last year.
However, Bilson admits she still studies the looks of other starlets before stepping out on the red carpet.
She tells People.com, "I really look up to a lot of my peers and how they dress. I love to admire other people. Ashley Olsen I think is great, Diane Kruger, Sienna Miller - all those people obviously have good style, so it's nice to see that around you. Your peers surround
you, and they all look good, so that's great." »

Considered as one of Hollywood's fashion goddesses, Rachel Bilson credits some fellow celebrities who have influenced her fashion style. While attending the Madewell 2009 Denim Tour at Hollywood's Chateau Marmont on Tuesday, October 20, she mentioned the likes of Ashley Olsen and Sienna Miller as her fashion inspiration.
"I really look up to a lot of my peers and how they dress. I love to admire other people," she confessed. Mischa Barton is locked in a legal battle with an Australian handbag company, after the firm opposed the star's move to trademark her name in the country.
The former The O.C. actress wants to trademark her name, signature and logo Down Under but she has been met with opposition from Queensland-based Mischa Accessories.
Lawyers for the firm have registered an objection with the IP Australia register in a move that could prevent Barton from safe-guarding her name.
The case follows a trademark battle between singer Katy Perry and her Australian namesake Katie Perry, who runs a clothing line in the country.
The I Kissed A Girl hitmaker's legal team took the designer to court in July over the right to use the name, but abandoned the case just an hour before it was due to be heard by a judge in Canberra, Australia. »

Plucking an experience from the cancellation of "The Beautiful Life: Tbl", Mischa Barton has a self-discovery that she is not made for TV. During an appearance at Whitney Museum of American Art Gala on Monday, October 19 night, the actress said that she should withdraw from the TV world.
"I think I need to back away from the whole TV approach," she told People. "That whole world of network television, probably isn't, for me, a good idea now. I need to start reading for more serious roles." In "Tbl", Barton plays model Sonja Stone who makes a comeback to the fashion world after mysteriously disappearing for sometime.
Barton couldn't hide her disappointment toward the cancellation which only allowed 2 episodes to air. "We were really such a great show and the first two episodes were nothing," she told Access Hollywood at the same event. "We shot amazing, big episodes - episodes four, »

Actress Mischa Barton is turning her back on the world of TV following the cancellation of her latest series The Beautiful Life - because she wants to focus on "more serious roles".
The 23 year old rose to fame starring in teen show The O.C., but struggled to land any major movie roles after the programme ended in 2006.
She signed on to Ashton Kutcher's modelling drama The Beautiful Life earlier this year, but the series was scrapped by U.S. network The CW in September due to poor ratings after airing just two episodes.
Barton is now reconsidering her acting future and realises the small screen might not be for her.
She tells People.com, "I think I need to back away from the whole TV approach. That whole world of network television, probably isn't, for me, a good idea now. I need to start reading for more serious roles."
But Barton insists she will take her time to decide what her next project will be.
She says, "It's too early to tell yet. I'm passing on all the (early) offers, because that's not the stuff you want to do. I want to go fight for interesting things and look for something that's going to be interesting for me... as a role."
So she's taking time out to focus on getting back into shape.
Barton adds, "(I'm) reading scripts and enjoying living in New York. Now that I'm not doing the TV show, I've got lots of time to work out." »

Empire Magazine had the chance to sit down with X-Men producer Lauren Shuler-Donner about the upcoming origin stories, prequels, and spin-offs coming from Marvel’s mutant world.
Shuler-Donner confirms Hugh Jackman will be headed to Japan to shoot on location for X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2, or whatever the title will eventually be. The comic book storyline centers on the clawed mutant falling for Mariko Yashida, the heiress to the Yakuza crime family.
“Wolverine will be fighting in a different style to what we’ve seen before,” she said, indicating a battle between him and Mariko’s father, Shingen Yashida. It will involve “samurai, ninja, katana blades, different forms of martial arts — mano-a-mano, extreme fighting.” This plot also suggests a possible showdown with mutant supervillain Silver Samurai, but maybe I’m just stretching it. After all, who doesn’t want to see mutant ninjas?
The producer also spoke about X-Men: First Class, »

X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner has already said that X-Men: First Class, the movie that will follow the X-Men during their early student days, will be 'tween-friendly, but she admitted to Empire that she'd like to use the Harry Potter movies as inspiration for First Class.
Harry Potter is a bit of a role model for us, absolutely. But we want it to be like the recent, darker Potters. It should not be a kiddie movie — we're in the X-Men world so you can't suddenly change the tone. The First Class comics are really fun — they're funnier than any other comics I've read. Basically in each one the kids are fighting strange villains, sometimes it's aliens, sometimes it's monsters. I want to get a flavor of that world. Occasionally the kids will be in class, but more often they'll be off on adventures. Which Professor X isn't too happy about! »

Sorority Wars is a comedy – set to air October 17 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt -- that stars Hale as Katie Snow, a college freshman who starts the titular war when she turns her nose up at her mother's (Courtney Thorne-Smith) old sorority, Delta. A college-themed comedy on Lifetime? Really? Hale, during a breezy interview, explained it all to ScreenStar.com. A lot of people think of Lifetime as the home of serious, mature dramas that makes them bawl. What was your initial reaction when you heard that Sorority Wars was for Lifetime? My initial reaction was "no thanks, »
