Jason Schwartzman Exclusive Interview Fantastic Mr. Fox

10 November 2009 12:10 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

I absolutely loved director Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox.  The film is his first foray into stop-motion animation and it’s like he brought the genre to him rather than attempting to adapt to the genre.  Trust me; if you’re a fan of his previous work like Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, you’re going to love this movie.

As most of you know, Fantastic Mr. Fox is based on the best-selling children’s book by Roald Dahl (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach) and it features the voices of George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Wally Wolodarsky, Eric Anderson, Michael Gambon, Willem Dafoe, and Owen Wilson.  But unlike some animated movies that cast famous actors to help sell tickets, everyone who provides a voice is perfect in this film.  Again, this is a great movie »

U.K. box office: ‘Up’ still up

30 October 2009 10:16 AM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

Up had edged close to a cumulative U.K. take of £20 million by the end of last weekend, and will have certainly already have passed that as we head into this weekend. Oh, those crazy Pixar kids, making movies with mass appeal and genuine emotion! Who knew making successful movies could be so simple? Fantastic Mr. Fox won’t open in North America for a couple weeks still, and it’ll get only a limited release in New York and Los Angeles -- hard to believe, but Wes Anderson’s biggest opener so far, number-of-screens-wise, was his first film, Bottle Rocket, which debuted on 28 screens; next is The Royal Tenenbaums, on five; his other films all opened on just two screens. Anyway: the point is, Fox cannot possible open to $15 million, which would be what we might expect for North America based on the U.K. performance, were it to open wide here. »

A Second Fantastic Trailer for a Fantastic Fox

30 September 2009 3:53 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

This is something that needs to happen with more regulatory: serious filmmakers choosing animation as a viable genre option instead of treating it like something of a lesser career choice. Wes Anderson, who has previously directed such films as The Royal Tenenbaums and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, adapts Roald Dahl’s other great work, Fantastic Mr. Fox, (he is probably best known for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach), at least for a moment proving that Pixar doesn’t have the rights to great animation. Even more curious, it’s all done in stop animation, giving the film a surreal dose of reality. There is a large visual change in the adaptation, as you can see below: the characters tend to be more realistic and lanky, whereas the illustrations in the book are more sketched out and exaggerated. It gives the film a »

Brand New Fantastic Mr. Fox Featurette

15 September 2009 1:50 AM, PDT | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

Fox Searchlight just made a brand new featurette for “The Fantastic Mr. Fox” available giving us some clues as to how director Wes Anderson and his crew used old-school stop-motion animation to bring the Roald Dahl classic to life.

Plot summary: Mr and Mrs Fox (Clooney and Streep) live an idyllic home life with their son Ash (Schwartzman) and visiting young nephew Kristopherson (Eric Anderson). But after 12 years, the bucolic existence proves too much for Mr Fox’s wild animal instincts. Soon he slips back into his old ways as a sneaky chicken thief and in doing so, endangers not only his beloved family, but the whole animal community. Trapped underground and with not enough food to go around, the animals band together to fight against the evil Farmers – Boggis, Bunce and Bean – who are determined to capture the audacious, fantastic Mr Fox at any cost.

Wes Anderson’s ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox’ Trailer

31 July 2009 6:58 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

They’ve finally released the trailer for Fantastic Mr. Fox, director Wes Anderson’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic story, and Anderson’s first full foray into stop-motion animation.  Previously, his film The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou featured a bit of stop-motion work.

Anyway, I just watched the trailer and I have to say that I’m not blown away by it.  This isn’t that great of a trailer, though I will never hang a movie from the gallows based on a bad trailer.  But it does make me wonder: If a viewer goes into this cold, without knowing much of Anderson’s work, what would they think?  At any rate, you can see some “Anderson trademarks” displayed in this film.  I’ll talk about them after you watch the trailer:

'Fantastic Mr. Fox' Trailer Appears Online With No Wes Anderson Shout

30 July 2009 2:30 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

What gives? Wes Anderson is a pretty popular director, right? I mean, "The Royal Tenenbaums" is one of the best movies out there! And then there's "Rushmore," "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" and "Bottle Rocket"! ...and "Darjeeling Limited." I suppose.

Still, I'm surprised at the lack of a banner credit in this newly released trailer for director Wes Anderson's adaptation of "Fantastic Mr. Fox." He rounded up many of his (awesome) usual suspects for the cast, including Bill Murray, Owen Wilson and Jason Schwarzman. Plus George Clooney and Meryl Streep. Enjoy the stop-motion foxiness!

Fantastic Mr Fox Images Released

16 July 2009 11:55 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Here are a couple of gorgeous hi-res images from Wes Anderson's incoming Fantastic Mr Fox adaptation. The first in the set (haha, you see, because foxes live in... never mind) shows us a pyjama-clad Mr Fox and his family with a lantern in a tunnel. So presumably that's from the part where they're escaping from the farmers in their bulldozer. Boggis, Bunce and Bean, one fat, one short, one lean, etc.The other shows Fox in front of a portrait of martial-looking badgers, which we guess is in the home of Mr Badger himself.Fox is voiced by George Clooney, his wife by Meryl Streep, and Badger by Bill Murray. Anderson's take on Roald Dahl's 1970 novel hit some tough times when original collaborator Henry Selick's production company Revolution (they did the stop-motion fish in Anderson's The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou) folded in 2006, and Selick himself moved on to Coraline. »

First Look: Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox

12 July 2009 4:33 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Wes Anderson’s next film is an animated take on Roald Dahl’s classic Fantastic Mr. Fox, and I gotta say, I’m very excited!  I’m a huge fan of Anderson (Rushmore is in my top 10 favorite films of all time), and it looks like this Fox Searchlight movie has an incredible cast, led by George Clooney as the title character.

Adapted by Anderson and co-writer Noah Baumbach (whose Kicking and Screaming is a classic 1990’s indie film), the story follows Mr. Fox as he takes a meal every night from one of three farmers to feed his family.  The farmers decide to team up to take down Mr. Fox.

It does seem a little bit odd that Anderson is doing an animated film as his follow-up to , but it does make sense.  Harry Selick (classic animator behind Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline, and many others) provided the stop-motion sea »

Jeff Goldblum, Still Alive And Doing Very Well

27 June 2009 1:30 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

This past Thursday, shortly after Michael Jackson’s untimely passing, a sick Internet rumor started that veteran actor Jeff Goldblum had died. His reps were quick to point out that the actor was, in fact, very much alive and well. For any of you doubting Thomases out there, here’s photographic evidence of the actor’s good health, taken just a couple weeks ago:

Of course, as many here in the MTV offices will attest to, Jeff Goldblum is king. He will always be David Cronenberg’s original “Fly” of course, but I love him best for starring alongside a young Laurence Fishburne as a high-class drug dealer in “Deep Cover.” And a designer drug dealer at that. In the honor of the fact that Jeff Goldblum still walks among us, I present to you this little photographic tour through his career.

I’ll admit, my heart skipped a beat »

Fox Searchlight To Distribute Fantastic Mr. Fox

11 May 2009 2:53 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

20th Century Fox hasn’t been very fortunate in the past few years with its theatrical releases (X-men 3, anyone?), which is why they may have decided to release the animated film Fantastic Mr. Fox under their indie division Fox Searchlight.

Searchlight has had a recent string of hits including, Napoleon Dynamite, Juno, The Wrestler and this year’s Oscar powerhouse Slumdog Millionaire, so this could turn out to be a very shrewd move for the studio and the filmmakers. It also gives audiences a chance to see what the directors and producers can do on their own without a lot of meddling by Fox, which takes a more “hands off” approach with Searchlight.

Fantastic Mr. Fox is based on the novel of same name, written by Roald Dahl and directed by Wes Anderson. Dahl also wrote the classic stories Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach. »
