Salman Khan will star in Prem Soni's next

Two days after the tepid response to the latest Salman starrer Main Aurr Mrs Khanna, its shell-shocked debutant director Prem Soni was bracing himself to be written off as one-film wannabe-wonder. Salman Khan restored Prem's trust in his abilities when on Sunday night at a private family gathering, he embraced the shaken director and announced, "No matter what people say about Khanna, you are doing our next film." Relieved beyond belief, Prem Soni is now a bigger Salman fan than ever before. "The way Main Aurr Mrs Khanna has been received, I thought no one would want to touch me with a bargepole. So many announcements go down the drain if the first film doesn't work." Relieved, Soni is still bewildered by the savage response to his maiden effort. Top Ten Working American Directors

Top Ten Working American Directors

A list like this is tricky to the point of madness. However, I'm going to save you the trouble by saying it right here, right now: Most of the choices on this list are obvious. There's a reason why certain names continually pop up whenever conversation drifts toward great American films. So there. I said it.

Yet, how do you weigh the likes of Francis Ford Coppola, a genius who delivered some of the all-time greatest films, but fizzled out 25 or so years ago, against a filmmaker like Woody Allen who has worked consistently for decades churning out both brilliant gems and disposable time wasters? How do you compare either of these directors against an auteur such as Spike Jonze who has only opened two films so far, but both are masterpieces?

In the end I just went with my gut. I knew there were »

Speaking about the casting of Saldana for the part, writer Andy Diggle who wrote the series opened up, "Aisha has to be deadly and desirable in equal measure, and Zoe embodies both qualities in spades." He furthermore added by promising, "Trust me, you've never seen her kick ass the way she does in The Losers!"

Based on the comic book series published by the Vertigo, "The Losers" has "Stomp the Yard" helmer Sylvain White taking the director's chair. Peter Berg and James Vanderbilt provide the script. Jeffrey Dean Morgan stars as Clay, »

Stephenie Meyer Novel 'The Host' Optioned For A Movie

23 September 2009 8:00 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

In other news, water is still wet. I think the most surprising thing about the news that "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer's novel "The Host" got picked up for a big screen adaptation is that it took so long to actually happen. Summit Entertainment has been doing so well with the "Twilight" series, you'd think they would have optioned the other Meyer book ages ago.

Instead, Nick Wechsler, Steve Schwartz and Paula Mae Schwartz ponied up to grab the rights for themselves, tapping "The Truman Show" writer Andrew Niccol to develop a script, according to a report in Variety. Wechsler and the Schwartzes are also the producers behind director John Hillcoat's upcoming adaptation of Cormac McCarthy novel "The Road."

Like "Twilight," "The Host" is primarily a love story. In place of vampires we have well-intentioned extraterrestrial parasites called Souls. One such Soul, known as the Wanderer, joins itself to »

Stephenie Meyer Finds Love in the Future with ‘The Host’

23 September 2009 12:04 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Twilight author Stephenie Meyer could probably retire with the money she will surely make off of her hit tween vampire series, but it seems as though she's not satisfied with that. She's hungry for more, and she will be teaming up with scribe/director Andrew Niccol to make it happen. The project, The Host, will be based on a Meyer novel of the same name. According to Variety's Mike Fleming, it is "a love story set in the near future on Earth, which has been assimilated by an alien species that call themselves "Souls." They are benevolent parasites that subsume the conscious of humans and take possession of their bodies. One such soul, The Wanderer (so named because she has wandered among so many different worlds) is fused with a dying human named Melanie Stryder, in an attempt to locate the last pocket of surviving humans on Earth. The Wanderer cannot subsume the forceful Melanie, and »

Spielberg News: Lincoln Still On Deck, Downey Jr. To Star In Harvey?

15 September 2009 9:29 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Today we have some news on two upcoming Steven Spielberg projects: his Abraham Lincoln biopic, and his adaptation of the Mary Chase award-winning play, Harvey, which is also a remake of the 1950 James Stewart classic.

Lincoln

Spielberg has been attached to a biopic about Lincoln for a few years now, with Liam Neeson also attached to star as the former President. The project was recently postponed because of budget and location restraints, but Spielberg still has it very much in mind. He recently spoke to Variety in wake of the news that Robert Redford would be directing a competing film, called The Conspirator (about one of the conspirators of Lincoln’s assassination), assuring us that the competition won’t deter him from making His biopic. Spielberg had this to say:

“We are very happy that Redford will be doing this Lincoln movie. It is completely different from what our DreamWorks Lincoln movie will be, »

Robert Downey Jr in Talks for Spielberg's Harvey

15 September 2009 7:00 AM, PDT | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

Back in August, Steven Spielberg announced that he will next helm a contemporary adaptation of Mary Chase's play "Harvey," about a man and his friendship with an invisible six-foot tall rabbit. "Harvey" was first adapted for the screen in 1950 with James Stewart in the starring role as Elwood P. Dowd. And because of this, many assumed that Spielberg would cast Tom Hanks, who is considered a moder-day Stewart and has worked with the director on such films as "The Terminal," "Catch Me If You Can" and "Saving Private Ryan." Variety has now confirmed that Hanks is not being considered for the lead and that Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man) is. The new movie is currently in pre-production and will begin filming in the first quarter of next year. 1950 "Harvey" Trailer: »

Actor Keanu Reeves is about to don another Hollywood hat, that of movie producer. According to Variety, Reeves' production house, Company Films, plans to begin filming its first picture, Henry's Crime, in November, with Reeves himself in the leading role.

Described as a "Capraesque" romantic comedy, Henry's Crime tells the story of an innocent man (Reeves) falsely accused of robbing a bank in Buffalo, New York. Malcolm Venville (44 Inch Chest) directs from a script by Sacha Gervasi (The Terminal).

Keanu stars in and produces Henry's Crime

1 September 2009 12:02 AM, PDT | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

Keanu Reeves will be busy filming a new romantic comedy this fall called Henry's Crime. Written by Sacha Gervasi (The Terminal) and to be directed by Malcolm Venville, the film will be the first to come from the actor's new production company, Company Films.

Keanu will also receive a producing credit on the film along with his co-partner at Company Films, Stephen Hamel. So too will Lemore Syvan, the producer of a film called The Private Lives of Pippa Lee that Reeves also stars in.

In the movie Reeves will play an ordinary man with a big heart who is mistakenly identified as a bank robber. Variety tells us that Gervasi's story has a Frank Capra-esque feel to it.

The Pippa Lee movie that Keanu stars in (along with Robin Wright Penn, Alan Arkin and Winona Ryder) opens in limited release in October. Henry's Crime will roll in front of cameras this November. »

Keanu Reeves Joins Malcolm Venville's RomCom Henry's Crime

I'm sure some of you will say that it's better Keanu Reeves is cast in a romantic comedy than as Spike in the Cowboy Bebop adaptation. But I fear he'll still take on both roles, whether you like it or not. Variety has announced that Reeves will produce and star in Henry's Crime, a project being directed by Malcolm Venville, who's directing debut was the indie film 44 Inch Chest. In the Capraesque romcom, scripted by Sacha Gervasi (The Terminal), Reeves will play a bighearted man who is falsely accused of robbing a bank in Buffalo. The picture will be financed through private equity. No distribution has yet been set for the film. Reeves is also producing Henry's Crime along with Stephen Hamel, who just started a new company with Reeves called Company Films. Shooting starts in November up in Buffalo. Spielberg To Develop Michael Crichton Pirate Movie

27 August 2009 7:50 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

In November last year we heard of the sad passing of the great novelist and screenwriter (amongst other things), Michael Crichton, who was responsible for such works as Jurassic Park (both the novel and screenplay), The 13th Warrior (novel) and Twister (screenplay). He wrote 27 fiction novels in his 40-plus years of writing, two of them unpublished.

And so, it seems fitting that Crichton’s long-time collaborator, Steven Spielberg, is going to develop one of those yet-unpublished novels into a movie: Pirate Latitudes.

USAToday reports that Spielberg has already tapped writer David Koepp - who co-wrote Jurassic Park’s screenplay with Crichton - to pen the script for Pirate Latitudes. Spielberg is planning on producing the adaptation, and will possibly direct as well. The acclaimed director has called the story a, “real page-turner that already seems suited for the big screen.” Check out the full quote from him:

Spielberg Tackles a Wascally Wabbit

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Steven Spielberg's next film project will be a contemporary adaptation of Mary Chase's play "Harvey", about a man and his friendship with an invisible six-foot tall rabbit.

"Harvey" was first adapted for the screen in 1950 with James Stewart in the starring role as Elwood P. Dowd. Novelist Jonathan Tropper has written the adaptation for the new version.

No casting is in place yet, but many believe that Tom Hanks will almost inevitably be mentioned as one candidate given that he's often considered a modern-day Jimmy Stewart and has worked with Spielberg on such films as The Terminal, Catch Me If You Can and Saving Private Ryan. In fact, he's the only actor that springs to mind for Harvey.

Pre-production is to begin immediately, with filming set to start after the first of the year as a joint venture between DreamWorks and Fox.
