Former Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale is set to guest star in the crime drama "Criminal Minds" after fellow rocker Jon Bon Jovi backed out of the role.
Bon Jovi was first asked to play a Goth rock star FBI profilers believe is a serial killer in an episode of the CBS series, but had to back out.
Rossdale, whose acting credentials include roles in "Constantine," "The Game of Their Lives," and "How to Rob a Bank" among others, will fill in for the role; his episode will be aired sometime in the fall.
"Criminal Minds" depicts the adventures of a team of profilers from FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit (Bau). Joe Mantegna, Paget Brewster, Shemar Moore, Aj Cook, and Thomas Gibson star.

It might not seem obvious, but this Sunday's 2009 Video Music Awards on MTV (coverage begins at 8pm!) is going to have a heavy Hollywood presence. Yes, yes... we all know that "Twilight" stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner will be presenting an expanded trailer for "New Moon." They're not who I'm talking about though.
See, a lot of music video directors these days have -- or soon will -- double-dip in the world of feature-length film. I'm going to be highlighting a few of them here on MTV Movies Blog in a series of Director Spotlight posts. First up is "I Am Legend" director Francis Lawrence, who's up for a Best Direction award for his work on Britney Spears' "Circus" video. Compare the video below with the "I Am Legend" trailer, embedded after the break.
Lawrence has been kicking around in the music world since the early '90s, »

British rocker Gavin Rossdale has been tapped for a guest appearance on Criminal Minds as a brutal serial killer. How cool is that? His criminally induced appearance is slated to show up in November in the police procedural.
Don’t fret. This isn’t Gavin’s first fling with acting. He’s been in How to Rob a Bank, Zoolander, Constantine & The Mayor of Sunset Strip. Constantine… oh good, something I’ve seen!
Criminal Minds on CBS, premieres on September 23rd at 9 p.m. I can’t wait. This, is a Bruce Fave!

Stop laughing. No seriously I mean it, stop laughing. It was just a joke. What's not a joke is that Rock Star Gavin Rossdale is going to be guest staring on Criminal Minds this fall. CBS made the announcment today saying that Rossdale will be protraying a "Goth rock star who has become lost in the frightening alter-ego he portrays on stage – an alter-ego whom the Bau team suspects may be a brutal serial killer."
This won't be the first acting gig for Rossdale, who made his mark as the lead singer and songwriter for the grunge band Bush, but who has gone on to star in several movies including Constantine, Little Black Book, Game of their Lives and his most recent independent feature, How to Rob a Bank which also stars the late David Carradine.
Criminal Minds premieres on CBS on Wednesday, September 23 at 9pm (Et). The full press »

Gavin Rossdale has just landed himself an acting job! The daddy of two will reportedly be joining the cast of Criminal Minds this fall. According to Entertainment Weekly, Gavin will play a Goth rock star who may have a dark secret as a serial killer. Surprisingly, this isn’t Gavin’s first acting gig. We got some pretty rad news for you guys this afternoon as Bloody Disgusting got the exclusive news that Sony's Columbia Pictures has acquired the original spec horror action script Supermax from actor/writers Christopher Allen Nelson (Kill Bill Vol. 2, The Dead Girl, The Tripper, Criminal Minds) and Mitch Rouse (Strangers With Candy, Employee of the Month, Reno 911). "Supermax" takes place in a Maximum Security Prison for the Super-Natural as a skilled guard must join forces with a lethal inmate after a riot ensues in order to fight his way through various monsters and mad-men in order to survive. The script was acquired for a reported six figures. For those of you who don't know Chris Nelson, his background began in special FX as he's worked on over 35 movies including Return of the Living Dead II, Bordello of Blood, Nightwatch, Species II, Constantine, Sin City, among many others. »

Here's an unusual combination: Gavin Rossdale and Criminal Minds. But the two shall meet this November when the British rocker and sometime-thespian guest stars on the CBS procedural. Rossdale will play a Goth rock star who may or may not be moonlighting as — what else? — a brutal serial killer. Rossdale's previous acting work has mostly been limited to the big screen. In addition to co-starring in the 2007 Nick Stahl-Erika Christensen heist flick How to Rob a Bank, Gwen Stefani's other half has appeared in Zoolander, Constantine, and The Mayor of Sunset Strip. Up and coming celebrity Shia Labeouf sure is making a name for himself in the movie business. Starting out as a troublemaking teenager gracing cable televisions across the country in the Disney sitcom 'Even Stevens', it wasn't long before Shia found his calling on the bigscreen with blockbusters including 'Constantine', 'I, Robot', and 'Holes'. Then comes 'Disturbia', a film I thought came out of nowhere. I mean, I hadn't heard of this flick a week prior to its release. »

Yesterday's announcement of Disney buying Marvel for $4billion (£2.5million) left superhero fans wondering about two key issues.
Firstly, what would happen to Marvel's existing comic book film slate; secondly, the impact on Marvel characters - such as the Fantastic Four - whose film rights are with other studios.
It 's since been revealed that Paramount will still distribute Marvel's five next superhero movies - Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America, The Avengers and Iron Man 3 - although Disney would like to take on this role in future.
It's also confirmed that the deals for characters at other studios will stay in place under the terms set by Marvel and these other studios.
As I explained, 20th Century Fox has movie rights to X-Men, Fantastic Four and Daredevil; Universal has Namor the Sub-Mariner; and Sony has Spider-Man and Ghost Rider.
And hot on the heels of all this, and as if »

I still have hopes for Keanu Reeves, even though I haven't been impressed by his post-Matrix offerings; I liked Constantine no matter what people say, but Lake House was just bland, Street Kings was mildly entertaining at best and Day The Earth Stood Still was every bit unnecessary as a remake could possibly get. But stepping up as a modern-day Jimmy Stewart? I'm curious. Reeves' new production shingle Company Films is developing Henry's Crime from a script by The Terminal scribe Sacha... »

Not a dream! Not a hoax! Not an imaginary story! That's right, true believers: Fox is already rebooting Fantastic Four! After a pair of big-screen attempts with the Human Torch, Invisible Woman, Mister Fantastic and the Thing, the studio is looking to put some new humans in the form-fitting unstable molecules. No real specifics are given, but the new version will be overseen by producer Akiva Goldsman, who previously held some responsibility for comic-to-film projects Constantine and the... »

In the future, God gets pissed off at humanity for some reason or another, and decides he's going to send his legion of angels to destroy earth. Because you know, a meteor or a flood would just be too convenient. MySpace has the first look at Legion via an epically long redband trailer. It looks like Constantine meets well, Constantine, but with less Keanu Reeves and way more automatic weapons fire. Who knew you could kill an angel with bullets? I must have missed that Bible verse. IGN had the chance to speak to producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who revealed that "Beverly Hills Cop 4" will likely never happen and considers it dead. But regarding a "Constantine" sequel, di Bonaventura said that he would love to do it. "We want to do a hard, R-rated version of it," he said. "We're going to scale back the size of the movie to try and persuade the studio to go ahead and make a tough version of it." He added that the plan is to bring back both Keanu Reeves and director Francis Lawrence, but no deal is currently in place. When asked if Constantine will remain a brunette, di Bonaventura said that he is considering changing the character's hair color to blonde to match the comics. "You know what? James Bond went blonde, so maybe Constantine," he said. "I always find it find that people get that impassionate about a hair color. »

In a story from The Hollywood Reporter there are some interesting updates to a bunch of DC Comics properties. At present there are currently more DC Comics adaptations happening than at any other point since the company was bought by Warner Bros. in 1969.
Currently, The Losers will be starting principal photography this week in Puerto Rico. Jonah Hex just finished production in Louisiana. The Green Lantern recently reported that Ryan Reynolds will play the popular superhero. Fox also picked up the television series Human Target and lastly, DC set up Red at Summit Entertainment.
"One of the things that has differentiated us for most of the last 20 years is the depth of our library and the depth of the creative material that we've put out and the opportunities that creates for other media," stated DC Comics president Paul Levitz.

Dead of Night, the supernatural thriller based on the best-selling horror comic-book series, Dylan Dog has completed principal photography, Hyde Park Entertainment Group and Platinum Studios announced yesterday.
The Kevin Munroe directed picture stars Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) as reluctant paranormal investigator Dylan Dog, who finds himself caught in the middle of a war between the demonic undead. Sam Huntington co-stars as Routh’s wise-cracking sidekick Marcus. On the subject of Routh as the iconic Dylan Dog, director Kevin Munroe was all praise:
“Dylan Dog is a character that brilliantly mixes charisma, affability, and hard-driven principles. I couldn’t be happier with Brandon’s portrayal - he meshed all of those aspects into a charming action hero, funny as he was ass-kicking. I can’t wait to share his work with the world.”
The film also stars Anita Briem (Journey to the Center of the Earth) as Elizabeth, Taye Diggs »

A big screen adaptation of the classic 80s arcade game Asteroids is in the works. According to the trades, Universal has won a four-studio bidding war to pick up the film rights to the Atari video game with Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers) on board to produce. In Asteroids, initially released as an arcade game in 1979, a player controlled a triangular space ship in an asteroid field. The object was to shoot and destroy the hulking masses of rock and the occasional flying saucer while avoiding smashing into both. As opposed to today's games, there is no story line or fancy world-building mythology, so the studio would be creating a plot from scratch. Universal, however, is used to that development process, as it's in the middle of doing just that for several of the Hasbro board game properties it is translating to the big screen, such as Battleship and Candyland. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount has acquired the supernatural action screenplay Hellified in a six-figure deal. Andy Burg wrote the script, and the movie is set to be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, whose horror credits include Constantine, Doom, 1408 and the upcoming Dogs from Martyrs writer/director Pascal Laugier.
Details of Hellified’s story aren’t being revealed at the moment, but it reportedly concerns, no surprise, a trip to the hot place. Set to direct the movie is Dan Bradley (pictured), who has handled 2nd-unit and stunt coordination duties on Freddy’S Dead: The Final Nightmare, The Lawnmower Man, The Prophecy, Mimic, the second and third From Dusk Till Dawn flicks and big-ticket pics like the Bourne and Spider-man sequels, and is currently helming the Red Dawn remake for MGM. Burg has a less action-filled résumé; he previously wrote the lighter likes of Trojan War and Alaska before getting into the Internet business, »

As a subway commuter myself, I have to admit that the idea of getting hijacked by criminals looking to ransom off New York City resident and torture Denzel Washington is pretty terrifying. Then again, if it was John Travolta doing the hijacking, it would probably be hilarious and make for an entertaining day.
This week’s remake of “The Tacking of Pelham 1 2 3” is more than entertainment, though. It is a reminder of public transportation’s, especially the subway’s, vital role in creating kickass cinematic drama and action. Here, for your pleasure, are my five most gripping subway scenes in film history.

There is a significant difference between riding the New York City subway system as a visitor and riding it as a resident of the city. A visitor never gets to ride these giant, finicky, subterranean monsters as a novelty. Residents are immune »
