I dream of celebrity. I don't even know what day it is anymore. I was sick all weekend and sleeping erratically. When I woke up this morning (last night? yesterday afternoon?) I was convinced that I had just been interviewing Vera Farmiga. She looked exactly like Sarah Paulson.
Instead of asking Ms. Farmiga about the her new picture, the Oscar contender Up in the Air -- view trailer -- I kept asking her what I should have for lunch. Did she maybe have the pancake recipe that made Claudette Colbert wealthy in Imitation of Life? If so, could I borrow it? Vera/Sarah became very frustrated that I wasn't interested in her career (but I am. Even though I never write about it!)
"Order the damn Blt" she finally declared with exasperation.
I ignored her and ordered the tuna melt instead.
P.S. Fans of I Heart Huckabees will sadly »

Nearly two months ago, a homemade bomb exploded outside a Starbucks coffee shop in Manhattan, causing property damage but not injuring anyone. The bomber was finally arrested yesterday, and now the police are saying that the alleged teenage bomber "was launching his own 'Project Mayhem,'" reports The New York Times, "referring to a plan hatched by the protagonist of Fight Club, played by Brad Pitt, to sabotage corporations by destroying property."
The accused, 17-year-old, Kyle Shaw, "had started an underground fight club modeled on the one in the film, [Police Commissioner Raymond W.] Kelly said, and had bragged to friends that he was behind the bombing." A search of Shaw's home turned up news clippings about the explosion, a box of sparklers -- the bomb was reportedly constructed from fireworks explosives, a plastic bottle, and electrical tape -- and a DVD of Fight Club. A former high school classmate remembers that Shaw "wanted »

Variety reports that Amy Adams is in negotiations to star in The Fighter alongside Christian Bale, Mark Wahlberg, and Melissa Leo, who was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in Frozen River.
Due for release sometime in 2011, The Fighter is being directed by David O. Russell, who helmed I Heart Huckabees, Three Kings, Spanking the Monkey, and the upcoming political comedy Nailed starring Jessica Biel and Jake Gyllenhaal. The Fighter is based on the true story of "Irish" Micky Ward, a boxer from South Boston who rose to prominence on the welterweight circuit during the mid-1980s.
Wahlberg will portray Ward, while Bale will play Ward's half-brother, Dicky Eklund, who recovered from drug addiction to help guide Ward's career. Leo will portray Ward's mother. If cast, Adams would play the part of a bartender who develops a romantic relationship with Ward.

Hey, check it out... Jason Schwartzman and Zach Galifianakis are starring in a new HBO show together! I vaguely remember hearing some early announcements about this a while back, but regardless, it feels like this kind of came out of nowhere. After seeing the short teaser for Bored to Death, I simply cannot wait to see it. The basic idea is that Jason Schwartzman is a writer who is going through a painful break-up. He loves Raymond Chandler novels, and apparently decides to make a change in his life by becoming a real-life private eye. I love the concept and I love Schwartzman when given the right roles, and this kind of has an I Heart Huckabees feel to it. The cast also includes Ted Danson and Parker Posey, and it premieres in September. Check out the teaser trailer after the jump and see what you think. For more posts like this visit FilmJunk. »

In April we all found out that the former Darren Aronofsky boxing project The Fighter would instead be directed by David O. Russell (Three Kings, I Heart Huckabees) and that Christian Bale had joined the cast as Dicky Eklund opposite Mark Wahlberg. What we didn't know, however, is how soon it would go into production, especially since the project has been moving very slowly up until this point. But while out promoting Public Enemies, Bale told Collider that they "might start [shooting] within a couple of weeks." Even though his first answer to if it was actually going to happen was a much less confident, "I hope it is." Bale explains what The Fighter is about: "It's a true story of two incredibly gifted boxers who were half brothers. The one, Dicky Ecklund, who fought Sugar Ray Leonard at a very young age, when he was twenty one, was an incredible »

Just as everyone has an opinion, a favorite meal and a nose — albeit a fake one at times — so too does everyone have a birthday. Even celebrities. Here at Birthday Bash, it’s my mission to salute the fine actors, filmmakers and other Hollywood heroes that are celebrating their special day this week. After all, it’s cheaper than mailing a cake.
It’s week two at Birthday Bash and we’re lighting the candles for the following three film personalities…
Meryl Streep (June 22): You can’t call yourself a film fanatic if you’re unfamiliar with Meryl Streep’s body of work, at least in passing. The versatile actress has received an unmatched 15 Academy Award nominations, taking two home in her time in Hollywood. Her most recent Oscar-worthy turns include a starring role in “Doubt,” in which she played a nun investigating allegations of child abuse, and as »

There has been much discussion on the debut film by Sophie Barthes, Cold Souls. There is the inevitable comparison to Charlie Kaufman and the trailer is definitely reminiscent of Being John Malkovich. But I think this film deserves a chance to be seen and word has been very positive so far. I Heart Huckabees this is not (and thank God!!). The film is a metaphysical satire about America’s obscene consumerist culture. In an alternate world human Souls can be extracted and traded as commodities. Paul Giamatti (playing a version of himself) tries the procedure on for size to get into a soulless character for the stage. When the plan backfires he learns his soul has been stolen and sold in the black market in Russia. Post modern humor ensues. Also staring Emily Watson, Lauren Ambrose, Dina Korzun, and David Stratharin. »

Kathy Griffin continues her "A-List training" with a trip to Canada to see the legendary out icon Lily Tomlin, but first there's more shilling for a Grammy award, which results in disses from Wynonna Judd ... and Charo.
Journey below to find out why this episode earns an up arrow (and I swear it has nothing to do with Kathy's constant mentions of 80's Gods Air Supply.)
The big news is that Kathy finally finds out that she's been nominated for a Grammy for Best Comedy Album. Unfortunately, she's up against the late George Carlin, whose last album was released posthumously, thus pretty much guaranteeing him the award.
That doesn't stop Team Griffin from doing everything they can to garner votes, including begging over the phone. Kathy provides scripts for Tom, Tiffany and her mother to follow as they call Grammy voters to "ask" them to consider her for the award. »

Visioneers Directed by: Jared Drake Written by: Brandon Drake Starring: Zach Galifianakis, Judy Greer, Fay Masterson, James LeGros My first introduction to Zach Galifianakis was through his association with Tim and Eric of the Adult Swim show Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!. His bizarre and deadpan sense of humour along with his trademark unkempt beard gave him instant appeal and a strong cult following, but it was not yet clear if the mainstream was quite ready for him. Now, with the upcoming Todd Phillips movie The Hangover about to usher him into major multiplexes, it seems that Galifianakis has officially made it as a comedy star, whether audiences are ready or not. Up to this point, the majority of his acting experience has been on the small screen, but aside from a few minor roles in What Happens in Vegas and Into The Wild, he also headlined an »

Still feeling a little burned by the disappointing movie that Fanboys became when the Weinstein Company pillaged it? Maybe you can find some consolation in '77, the other tiny indie about geeky Star Wars fans trying to make their dreams come true. This one is written and directed by Patrick Read Johnson, telling an autobiographical story about an Illinois teenager (John Francis Daley, a.k.a. Sam Weir from Freaks and Geeks) who is an aspiring filmmaker, and whose life is changed by the May 25, 1977 release of a little movie called Star Wars. The movie doesn't have a release date or a distributor yet, but they've released the first trailer. It's a good trailer, though one that's really over-reliant on familiar songs-- Paul Simon's "Kodachrome,'" Elo's "Mr. Blue Sky" and (I think) Jon Brion's song from I Heart Huckabees. Seriously, we all love "Mr. Blue Sky," but »

Yes, yes. It's ironic that Christian Bale and David O. Russell -- both known for recent YouTube worthy temper tantrums -- have signed on for a film called 'The Fighter'. Hardy Har. The shitty thing is Darren Aronofsky is out. I was interested to see what he'd do with two sports themed movies back-to-back, but we'll never know. Not that David O. Russell is any schlump. Mark Wahlberg is also attached to the film, which means it will be the third time he and Russell team up. I loved Three Kings and enjoyed I Heart Huckabees, so I've got no problems with that. So what the eff is The Fighter about anyways? According to Variety [1]: Pic tells the story of Boston fighter "Irish" Mickey Ward and how he was helped to the world lightweight championship by half-brother Dicky Eklund. It appears that The Dark Knight himself, Christian Bale, will be starring alongside Mark Wahlberg in the boxing movie The Fighter. The film, now being directed by David O. Russell (he, Wahlberg and Bale’s involvement are still being negotiated, by the way), will be financed by Relativity Media (first initiated by Paramount Pictures who will now only be distributing in the Us) and is hoped to be in production this summer.
It may be an unfamiliar project to you, so here is the official synopsis for it:
[The Fighter] tells the story of Boston fighter “Irish” Mickey Ward and how he was helped to the world lightweight championship by half-brother Dicky Eklund. Eklund once decked Sugar Ray Leonard and went the distance against the boxing legend before forfeiting his career to drugs and crime. He redeemed himself by training Ward through his Rocky-like run to the title.

Over the past few years, The Fighter has attracted some of Hollywood’s top talent. The project initially kicked off with Matt Damon in Mark Wahlberg’s corner. Damon took a hike somewhere around the writers strike and Brad Pitt stepped in for him. The Wrestler director Darren Aronofsky had also been attached until recently, but with his sports drama out of the way he has moved on to other things (like a RoboCop remake).
Wahlberg has remained attached through each of the pic’s variations and has continued to stay in fighting shape for the film. He will play Boston fighter “Irish” Micky Ward, who became the world lightweight champion with the help of his half-brother, Dickie Eklund. Ward is best known for his three fights with Arturo “Thunder” Gatti. (By the way, my nickname is also Thunder)
The recent shake-up brings in Christian Bale to replace Damon/Pitt as Eklund, »
