SOMETHING IS LACKING!, 27 December 2002

No so elegant compared to other movies based on the life stories of Philippine heroes. The idea of bringing the life story of Lapu-Lapu, recognized as Philippine's first hero, into the big-screen is very excellent, but it seems that this movie is far below my expectation. The casting was excellent, the acting was just fine, the fight scenes were above average, the production design was good. But there is something missing in this film which made this film so boring. Maybe, I just expected too much from this one. Anyway, this movie, an entry in the Metro Manila Film Festival, failed to get a single award. Further, it's a box office flop.

This movie actually did not only alter the history (Philippine history - at that), but also bastardized Lapu-Lapu. It was so funny to note that Lapu-Lapu, the man whom Antonio Pigafetta wrote as the person who killed Ferdinand Magellan, was a fisherman's king, as his name was derived from a name of a fish, not the other way around. Funny.

Spend your money for this one if you like to see Joyce Jimenez (she showed some skins here - but lot of extras were topless).
