I think what kept this film interesting were the performances and the concept. I liked the quirky supporting cast. I was not too crazy about Fay Masterson who played Jake's sister. But I thought Jason Behr (Jake) really provided the emotional anchor throughout the film. He is superb. San Francisco provides a beautiful backdrop to this gently told fable. And the music is just great. There is a certain artsy pride in the details, the kind of music the characters listen to, the art, the literature they are interested in. But this does not take anything away from the film at all. It has an irresistible charm of it's own. All in all this film is worth a buy considering the kind of big studio crap we get mislead into watching and buying. Buy it for the pleasure of soaking in Jason Behr's beauty. Believe me that is money well-spent.
