Writer Found For ‘Men In Black 3′

30 October 2009 4:45 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Back in April we reported on news from the Sony ShoWest presentation that the studio was developing a script for a third Men in Black movie, something which built on the rumors from over a year ago that franchise stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones were interested in suiting up for some alien escapades once more. Fast forward to now and an update has come out that Men In Black 3 has found its writer in the form of Tropic Thunder screenwriter, Etan Cohen (not to be confused with one half of the famous Coen brothers, Ethan).

Variety is reporting that Columbia Pictures (which Sony owns) has tapped Cohen to pen the script, but beyond that no deals have been made for either Smith or Jones to reprise their roles. Although I’d be very surprised if the studio didn’t have talks going on with the two stars »

Recipe for Lemony Snicket’s Parsley Soda

19 June 2009 8:49 AM, PDT | thetorchonline | See recent thetorchonline news »

In The Ersatz Elevator, the fantastically-titled sixth book in Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, the orphened Baudelaires are sent to live in the New York penthouse of  wealthy Jerome and Esmé Squalor, the latter of whom is obsessed with what's "in" and what's "out." What beverage is currently "out"? The Aqueous Martini -- and for good reason: it's just water in a fancy glass with an olive in it. But what beverage is "in"? Something called Parsley Soda, which doesn't sound much more appetizing. And leave it to the internet: several folks have come up with actual recipes for the concoction, including the enterprizing folks over at Industructables, which actually made something that sounds like it might taste pretty good: Ingredients: 2-Liter Soda Bottle & Cap (clean it well with soap, or a diluted bleach solution) 1 to 2 cups Sugar Juice of 2 Limes Yeast (common baker's yeast will work, »

Land of the Lost Review

8 June 2009 11:02 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Land of the Lost Directed by: Brad Silberling Written by: Chris Henchy, Dennis McNicholas Starring: Will Ferrell, Danny McBride, Anna Friel, Jorma Taccone, Ben Best The transition from R to PG-13 is not always an easy one for comedians, particularly ones who base their humour on crass jokes and shock value, but it's a transition that is necessary in order to become a true A-list Hollywood star. When formerly edgy funnymen turn to family-friendly fare (that's a lot of f-words), they typically risk alienating their original audience and watering down their act. However, if they can pull off these films without losing their identity and credibility (ahem... Eddie Murphy), they just may have a long and profitable career ahead of them. Will Ferrell, for his part, has always done a decent job of balancing his career between movies for general audiences (Elf) and the college crowd (Old School, Anchorman). However, »

Will Ferrell, Danny McBride and Jorma Taccone in Land of the Lost

Photo: Universal Pictures Land of the Lost is neither funny nor entertaining. It's juvenile potty humor and sexual innuendo wrapped up in what feels like a Universal Studios theme park ride more than an actual film. However, I could have bought into all of that had that been the movie they were trying to make. As it turns out I am not sure director Brad Silberling (Lemony Snicket's a Series of Unfortunate Events) knew what he was going for with this film. Is this trying to be a family comedy? Because it sure isn't one, and if it's not for the family then who is the target audience? Prior to writing up this review I watched the first two episodes of the 1970s television series the film is based on to get a little perspective. The show is harmless, »

Land of the Lost Is Not for Little Kids

3 June 2009 8:28 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

The original Land of the Lost TV series was a tame, Saturday-morning adventure program. The new movie starring Will Ferrell and Danny McBride is a slightly different story, though, mixing sexual innuendo and raunchy slapstick in with the dinosaurs for a movie clearly meant for older audiences.

When asked about the more adult aspects of the film, McBride said:

There is definitely a subversive nature to it. On face value, you'd think it would be something just for kids, but it's pretty racy. There's stuff in there where you're like, "Oh, okay, I don't know if I'd really want my kid watching that." But, what I liked about this film was that it was unexpected. It takes some turns that you don't expect, with the tone and even with some of the comedy. When you see that the special effects are done for real and it's not like the old TV show, »

Barry Sonnenfeld to Direct Swift

31 May 2009 10:10 PM, PDT | TheMovingPicture.net | See recent TheMovingPicture news »

Columbia Pictures has acquired a pitch from director Barry Sonnenfeld and up-and-coming writer Ben David Grabinski that is described as a reimagining of the Tom Swift adventure novels. The project, titled Swift, is being developed as a Sonnenfeld directing vehicle. The Tom Swift character first appeared in 1910 and has appeared in new titles as recently as 2007. The original books were outlined by Edward Stratemeyer, written by ghostwriters and credited to pseudonym Victor Appleton. The books have been translated into a number of languages and sold over 20 million copies worldwide. Sonnenfeld and Grabinski's version would feature Swift as one-half of a father-son team who are among the greatest inventors of all time. Albie Hecht (Lemony Snicket's a Series of Unfortunate Events), who had been developing a Swift project of his own, will produce the project alongside Sonnenfeld. Though Hollywood has long been intrigued by the boy genius, Tom Swift has yet »

Lemony Snicket Sequel to be Stop-Motion?

29 May 2009 5:00 PM, PDT | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

Director Brad Silberling (Land of the Lost) previously revealed that he is considering making a "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" sequel. He now tells Sci Fi Wire that maybe going down the live-action route is not the best idea. "Nothing too concrete, but you start the movie with everybody thinking you're heading into another live-action movie," he explains. "But it's taken so long for this one to happen, and Olaf is still stuck in the makeup trailer and everyone else, and so Lemony Snicket basically tells you, 'Unfortunately, enough waiting: No, we're going to have to tell you the real story.' Boom, you dial through a soundstage door, and you're introduced into a stop-motion universe." He continued: "Actually that's my hope for the next film, that it can be stop-motion." Silberling also said there are some outstanding legal issues revolving around the franchise because of the Paramount/DreamWorks split. »

Will we ever see a second 'Lemony Snicket'?

26 May 2009 11:43 PM, PDT | screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news »

I had never read any of the books before the film's release, but I really enjoyed Brad Silberling's "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" when it opened in theaters in 2004. And yes, I also really wanted to see a sequel (and still do). According to Silberling himself, I may actually get to see one soon. The director of the upcoming Will Ferrell comedy "Land of the Lost" told the following to CineFOOLS in a recent interview:

"<Name removed for privacy reasons> and I, he's the writer of... is very friendly with Mr. Snicket I should say, we stay in constant touch about it, because I would love nothing more than to do that and we've been hoping to, so I think there will be a chance it may take a wildly different form but I think it will probably happen."

Okay, this doesn't guarantee anything, but at least Silberling's talking about something that could "probably happen. »

Sequel to 'Lemony Snicket', a Possibility

Five years after "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" hit the big screen, words on potential sequel are rushing in. Asked by CineFOOLS at the premiere of "Land of the Lost" whether or not a sequel is looming, director Brad Silberling seemed optimistic that a follow-up movie is likely to be happening.

"It was a co-production between Paramount and Dreamworks and there were studio politics and I actually think it's going to see the light of day," the filmmaker gushed. "[Name removed for privacy reasons] and I, he's the writer of...is very friendly with Mr. Snicket I should say, we stay in constant touch about it, because I would love nothing more than to do that and we've been hoping to, so I think there will be a chance it may take a wildly different form but I think it will probably happen."

Lemony Snicket Sequel Could Happen

During the "Land of the Lost" premiere, CineFools got the chance to speak to director Brad Silberling and asked him whether a sequel to "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" could still happen. Brad Silberling Says We Might See a Lemony Snicket Sequel?!

26 May 2009 5:10 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Wait, what?! Big budget, big effects director Brad Silberling talked with the guys at CineFOOLS recently and apparently said that there might actually be more Lemony Snicket movies. You see, Silberling directed Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, but that was back in 2004 and it didn't do so well at the box office, at least not well enough to warrant a sequel. At the premiere of Land of the Lost, however, Silberling seemed optimistic. "I would love nothing more than to do that and we've been hoping to, so I think there will be a chance it may take a wildly different form but I think it will probably happen." For those in the unknown, A Series of Unfortunate Events is a children's book series of fourteen novels written by Lemony Snicket, the pseudonym of Daniel Handler. ‘Land Of The Lost’ Director Brad Silbering Hints At A Return To The World Of Lemony Snicket

Are you still patiently waiting for more Count Olaf? It’s been five years since the adaptation of “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events” hit theaters, a reasonable enough amount of time to assume that a sequel probably isn’t going to happen. Of course, that doesn’t stop author Daniel Handler (aka “Lemony Snicket”) and adaptation director Brad Silberling from occasionally giving hope to fans. Silberling, whose new film “Land of the Lost” opens next week, recently had the following to say to CineFOOLS on the subject:

“I actually think it’s going to see the light of day. [Handler and I] stay in constant touch about it, because I would love nothing more than to do that and we’ve been hoping to, so I think there will be a chance it may take a wildly different form, but I think it will probably happen.”

A Second Lemony Snicket Movie Might Be Possible

26 May 2009 1:56 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Brad Silberling is busy talking about his experience directing Will Ferrell, Danny McBride and some Sleestaks in Land of the Lost, but Cinefools also caught him at the premiere to talk about Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, the movie he directed in 2004 that didn't exactly make the kind of money you'd expect from a Jim Carrey movie based on a series of best-selling books. But apparently there's always room for a sequel, even for a non-hit. Silberling told the Cinefools guys " I would love nothing more than to do that and we've been hoping to, so I think there will be a chance it may take a wildly different form but I think it will probably happen." He admitted, though, that there are challenges in place. "There was a period of time, about a year ago, where I would have said "Oh, good luck" because it was mired »
