Director Len Wiseman in talks to direct and produce an untitled pitch about the end of the world for Fox. Wiseman also directed Underworld , Underworld: Evolution and Live Free Or Die Hard . The project is based on an original idea about a group of people who survive the end of the world and the mystery surrounding how they got to that position. The studio is seeking writers for the project. Wiseman is also attached to two other projects, the underwater military actioner Atlantis Rising and the futuristic war pic Shrapnel . No word on which of the three above projects is next but we'll keep you posted! »

Len Wiseman, the man who abused his blue-filter privileges for Underworld and Underworld: Evolution, will follow up 2007’s Live Free or Die Hard with an end-of-the-world flick entitled Nocturne. According to THR, 20th Century Fox has picked up the project based on an original idea about a group of people who survive the end of the world and the mystery surrounding how they got to that position. The project is currently looking for writers for what I have to say is not a bad premise.
As for Wiseman, his other potential projects, including the underwater military action flick Atlantis Rising and the futuristic war movie Shrapnel (why all the killing, Wiseman?), but doesn’t have a go picture. Wiseman has been a non-starter for some potentially major films like a remake of Escape from New York and an adaptation of the popular video game Gears of War.

With 2012, it looks like the apocalyptic genre is in at the moment. 20th Century Fox is hopping on the bandwagon, having purchased an untitled pitch that will hopefully bring the apocalypse with Len Wiseman at the helm.
Len Wiseman Negotiating Nocturne
Fox is in talks with Wiseman to both produce and direct what is currently being called Nocturne. The pitch is based on an original idea about a group of people who survive the end of the world and the mystery surrounding how they got to that position. The studio is seeking writers for the project.
Just in case you've been enjoying the beaches of Bora Bora the last decade, Wiseman is known for the Underworld movies and last helmed Live Free or Die Hard. »

Len Wiseman has signed on to direct Nocturne for 20th Century Fox. We don't know much about this project other than the few little tidbits included in The Hollywood Reporter's announcement piece, so lets look at what we know: Post Apocalyptic: The story is set after the end of the world, and follows a group of survivors. The Twist: The film is about "the mystery surrounding how they got to that position" And before you think this is just another post apocalyptic disaster film, ala 2012, the piece mentions that the film is a "thriller." Original: The pitch is based on a completely original idea (ie not a remake, adaptation or sequel), and no writers have been hired to pen the project, but the studio is currently on the hunt. Who's Involved: Len Wiseman wrote and directed Underworld and Underworld: Evolution, and last directed Live Free or Die Hard. Wiseman is »

Fox is feeling apocalyptic as the studio has bought an untitled pitch about the end of the world, with Live Free or Die Hard and Underworld director Len Wiseman in talks to direct and produce. The project is based on an original idea about a group of people who survive the end of the world and the mystery surrounding how they got to that position. The studio is seeking writers for the project. The apocalypse and all that follows is going through one of its semi-regular renaissances in Hollywood, with Sony set to release the Roland Emmerich end-of-days pic 2012 on Friday. »

Not to be outdone by Roland Emmerich and his disaster porn fetish, “Underworld” director Len Wiseman is going to try his hand at blowing up the world and leaving behind just a few stragglers to figure out why. Wiseman, who directed the first two “Underworld” movies along with “Live Free or Die Hard”, has sold an untitled pitch to Fox about the end of the world. Well okay, the pitch is said to be untitled, but in their article, THR actually calls the movie “Noturne” in the headline, which, er, doesn’t really mean it’s untitled. Or did THR screw up? I guess we’ll find out tomorrow. Then again, the article also says Wiseman directed “Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans”, when he only produced, so … Anyhoo, about the movie, which may or may not be called “Noturne”. It will be about a group of people who survive the end of the world, »

Once upon a time, Tom Cruise was going to star in an espionage thriller that had him getting into some heavy action Mi-style. But that didn't last long and Mr. Edwin A. Salt got a sex change and a sexy new lead with Angelina Jolie. One would think the Edwin A. would become Edwina and all would be well, but now the character is Evelyn Salt, the movie is Salt, and you can check out the first teaser trailer after the jump.
Salt focuses on a CIA officer who's in for a shock when a Russian captive tells her that a Russian agent will head to Manhattan to kill the president. The spy's name: Evelyn Salt. Rather than let her co-workers detain her, she escapes, striving to prove that she's no spy. She's a patriot. "Using all her skills and years of experience as a covert operative, she must elude »

The Hawaii International Film Festival (Hiff) wrapped up its 29th incarnation this past weekend with encore screenings of its award-winning films and a closing night honoring of actress Maggie Q, who was on hand to introduce her newest film, Tian Zhuangzhuang’s fantasy swordplay epic The Warrior and the Wolf. A successful Hong Kong fashion model who morphed into a film career there and later in China and Hollywood (she’s appeared in such diverse films as Gen-y Cops, Rice Rhapsody, Three Kingdoms, and Live Free or Die Hard), Maggie Q (nee Maggie Quigley) is actually not from Hong Kong at all, or even Chinese; in fact, she’s half-Vietnamese and Polish/Irish, and was born and raised in Hawaii. After graduating high school in Honolulu she... »

Over the past few years I’ve been a bit amazed when certain films - that I honestly believed would never be made - have eventually made it to the big screen.
Films such as Live Free Or Die Hard, Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull and even Superman Returns were in development for so long that at one point it appeared that they’d never be made. Now it looks like George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road might be making it onto that list.
Over the weekend Miller talked up the forthcoming action extravaganza to the Australian media, discussing casting, showing off cars for the film and giving details about when the film will shoot.
To learn more keep reading.
Miller says that pre-production for Mad Max 4 will start next week and it looks like there may be a slim chance that Mel Gibson »

Kevin Smith is used to being the guy in charge on his film sets. Through his production company, View Askew, Smith has acted as writer, director, and editor on all of his "Askewniverse" films, even providing music (remember "Berserker" from Clerks?) and filling miscellaneous crew roles. However, for his latest film, A Couple of Dicks, starring his Live Free or Die Hard co-star Bruce Willis, Smith had to come to terms with the fact that his was not the only creative vision ... and that he was not necessarily top dog on the set.
So it took us like a week for us to figure out what it was we were doing together. I was going at it like, "Bruce, do it like this" I was directing Bruce the way I direct everybody else. And Bruce was like "I've been acting like Bruce Willis for 25 years, do you really think there's »

About six months ago, we reported on Jason Statham being cast in the remake of the 1972 action crime-thriller, The Mechanic, about a hitman who takes on an apprentice. At the time there was word that the remake would be a remake in name only, and the story would be changed to a modern-day spy thriller. However, with the latest casting news, it appears the story will be pretty similar if not the same as the original.
Promising news, I say.
Variety is reporting that Donald Sutherland and Ben Foster (Pandorum, X-Men: The Last Stand) are set to co-star with Statham in The Mechanic remake, which is set to be directed by Simon West (Con Air - one of my favorites, Fyi ) from a screenplay by Karl Gajdusek. Foster is set to play Statham’s hitman apprentice, Steve McKenna (the original role was played by Jan-Michael Vincent), and Sutherland will play »

He'll always be best known for representing a Mac in Apple commercials, but Justin Long continues to branch out with his acting career. After a decade of playing fairly light roles in comedies and horror films, not to mention a prominent breakout part in "Live Free or Die Hard," he will be getting his first serious, dramatic supporting role in Robert Redford's Lincoln assassination movie, "The Conspirator," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Long joins James McAvoy and Robin Wright Penn for the historical drama about Mary Surratt (Wright Penn), the sole woman allegedly involved in the plot to kill the president. McAvoy plays a disfigured Civil War hero who comes to her defense, while Long will play his best friend and fellow soldier who also assists as McAvoy's conscience.
The biggest challenge will be that Long's character has lost a limb in the war (it's not revealed if it's »

When it reached American audiences two years after it opened in France, 2006's District 13 (or B13 here) served as a breezy introduction to the art of parkour, not to mention director Pierre Morel's knack for shooting action sequences both energetically and visibly (an underrated quality, that last one). Morel moved on to Taken, though, while parkour began to infiltrate more high-profile Hollywood fare, like Casino Royale and Live Free or Die Hard.
However, writer/producer/all-around action maven Luc Besson stuck around to cash in on the promise of a follow-up, and now we're greeted with District 13: Ultimatum, a competent if flabby rehash of the first film's race-against-time plot and dystopian setting.

Speed, agility, violence: Parkour, it's not just something that gets parodied on The Office, it's the way of the French. Rather, it is the way of building jumper turned action star David Belle and French martial artist Cyril Raffaelli, both of whom were made famous by their performances in the Luc Besson produced, Pierre Morel directed District B13. In 2004, this fast-paced, high-flying actioner took the world of genre cinema by storm, unleashing Parkour upon the world. It has since been seen in other films such as Casino Royale and Live Free or Die Hard. And if you've seen it in any of these movies, you know how impressive this efficient mode of obstacle navigation can be. Then again, if you haven't seen it in District B13 or its subsequent sequel, District 13: Ultimatum, then I would argue that you ain't seen nothin' yet. Flash forward to 2009. Director Pierre Morel has moved on to direct the Liam Neeson »

Dreamworks has tapped 24 co-executive producer Jon Cassar to helm Motorcade, with Ryan Reynolds in talks to star. You might recall hearing about Motorcade previously, as it is a hot action film project which has been fighting its way to the big screen over the last year since appearing on the 2008 Black List (a list of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood). Live Free or Die Hard director Len Wiseman was originally set to bring the project to the big screen, but moved on to Atlantis Rising. Most recently, Motorcade was at the top of a short list of potential projects that Tom Cruise was considering for his next film. Cruise eventually chose Wichita instead. Cassar has helmed 59 episodes of the popular Fox action television series 24. From my experience watching the show, it appears that Cassar can competently shoot action, but brings no style or flare to the storytelling. ... »

Jon Cassar will direct DreamWorks Pictures' "Motorcade." Billy Ray works on the screenplay originated by Hans Bauer and Craig Mitchell. Ryan Reynolds is being considered to star as a distrage Secret Service agent who is the wrong place at the right time when on the U.S. president is kidnapped during a visit to New York. Apparently, this was one of the projects Tom Cruise seriously considered when Len Wiseman ("Underworld," "Live Free or Die Hard") was attached to direct. »

Earlier this year, before we knew that he would be starring in Wichita, Tom Cruise had about 7 potential projects lined up. One of them was Motorcade, an action thriller about a disgraced Secret Service agent who happens to be in the wrong place at the right time when the president's motorcade is commandeered by terrorists in New York (it was originally set in Los Angeles). Variety reports that the project is switching actors - Cruise is out, Ryan Reynolds is in - and directors as well. Live Free or Die Hard director Len Wiseman is being replaced by Jon Cassar, best known for directing over 50 episodes of Fox's series "24". DreamWorks is hoping to get this into production by late summer or early fall 2010. Reynolds is not signed on, but they're "eying" him, which I'm assuming means attempting to get him to join and looking at his schedule ... »

Not content to just mouth off as a superpowered merc or patrol the spaceways as an interstellar cop with yellow issues, Ryan Reynolds is currently in negotiations to board the action movie “Motorcade” for DreamWorks. Variety calls the movie a “drama”, but how can it possibly be a drama and not an action movie with a premise like this: Reynolds would play a disgraced Secret Service agent who happens to be in the wrong place at the right time when the U.S. president is kidnapped in New York. Come on, that screams action thriller! Or at least, “24″-esque. Which probably makes sense that Dreamworks has assigned former “24″ director/producer Jon Cassar to helm the project, taking over for Len Wiseman (”Live Free or Die Hard” and the “Underworld” films), who was attached to the movie a while back (with Tom Cruise interested, natch), but has since left for greener pastures. »
