Less than a week after being named the biggest siphon in Hollywood, sucking movies dry with her expensive contracts, Nicole Kidman has...signed another contract. She'll star in and co-produce a new action-adventure movie at Fox called The Eighth Wonder.
Despite her recent well-publicized box office slump, Fox is releasing Kidman's new movie with Baz Luhrman, and from what I gather, the studio is very excited about Australia. Perhaps they sense a change in her fortunes.
She'll be working from a script by Simon Kinberg, and he hasn't written a movie yet with a modest budget, so we should probably expect the same thing here, especially since The Hollywood Reporter compares it to the Jason Bourne of Indiana Jones movies. Kidman and Kinberg have a history; he wrote Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and for a while she was going to star in that. After she moved on because of scheduling conflicts,

SlashFilm came across an impressive demo reel created by Canadian director Mathieu Ratthe who took it upon himself to write, direct and produce a 6:30 minute demo reel based on the opening chapter of "The Talisman" written by Stephen King and Peter Straub. The rights to the film adaptation have been held by Stephen Spielberg for what seems like forever with directors such as Vadim Perelman (House of Sand and Fog) and Ed Zwick (The Last Samurai) dropping off the project in the past. In 2006 TNT announced the book would be turned into an epic, six-hour adaptation of the story with Ehren Kruger (The Skeleton Key, The Ring) adapting the story. Word was that the adaptation would hit television screens in summer of 2008, but I can only assume if that was actually the case that the writers'strike put a huge kink in the works. So, this leaves everything in limbo as far as I know,

A delighted Keith Urban is expressing his and Nicole Kidman's baby joy on the World Wide Web. Shortly after the birth announcement was made, the singer released a statement on his Web site: "Earlier this morning Nic gave birth to our beautiful baby girl, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban. We want to thank everybody that has kept us in their thoughts and prayers. We feel very blessed and grateful that we can share this joy with all of you today." The couple welcomed their daughter early Monday morning in Nashville. A spokesman for the couple tells People, "Mother and baby are very well.
