I watched this movie on Showtime recently and was surprised at the accuracy of the events. Living about two hours from the location of Jasper, Texas, driving through Jasper going to relatives houses, and having family in Louisiana law enforcement, I had learned a lot about the details back when the event was current. This was a horrible action performed by the three men on a black male. Watching this movie in 2003, and the events taking place in 1998, it refreshed my memory quickly. Voight, Gosset, and cast re-enacted the events well. Even as disturbing as this event was, I was drawn to the movie like a moth to a flame. My hat goes off to Jonathan Estrin and Jeff Byrd for a great screen play. It was an unbiased, true drama. Showtime did an excellent job choosing the actors for this film. Voight, was the perfect choice for a small town sheriff and Gosset, for a small town mayor. This film is worth watching for its historical value and for the actors that portrayed the events.
