After having every single person with a television watching "House" the other night, Bryan Singer has officially come back into the spotlight. He's already signed on for Battlestar Galactica and Excalibur, but now he's also adding a twisted version on a classic story with Jack the Giant Killer. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the director will be tackling the Princess search-and-rescue mission for New Line. The story focuses on the kidnapping of a Princess and a young farmer who must venture into Giant territory to get her back. So, yeah. Bryan Singer. Great. But that's not what I care about. What I care about is that the script is from Mark Bomback, the writer of Live Free or Die Hard. That's right - we have to assume that an updated fairy tale figure will be yelling Yippee Ki-Yay while he's stealing a golden goose. Genius. Pure, unadulterated genius. Of course, Bomback »

Pine would play a train conductor who leaps aboard a locomotive with a senior engineer (Washington) to stop a runaway train carrying toxic chemicals.
Mark Bomback (Godsend, Live Free or Die Hard, Deception, Race to Witch Mountain) wrote the script for the film, which is inspired by a real-life incident.

It will be the fifth time that Denzel Washington has worked with Tony Scott. The pair previously teamed on Crimson Tide, Man on Fire, Deja Vu and forthcoming The Taking of Pelham 1,2,3.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon has officially started principal photography today according to Erik Feig, Summit Entertainment’s President of Production. The Chris Weitz directed film will be in theaters November 20, 2009.
All of the original actors from the box office hit Twilight have returned, including Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. There was some minor outrage over the exclusion of Billy Burke from an early press release, but MTV has confirmed Bella’s father Charlie Swan will be returning. I guess he just wasn’t important enough for Summit to remember.
New to the cast is Cameron Bright, who will play Alec. The character is another member of the Volturi, a powerful coven of vampires based in Italy. He’s also the brother of Jane who is being played by Dakota Fanning. Alec’s powers allow him to cut off the enemy’s senses, rendering them unable to hear, see, or feel anything. »

Tony Scott is doubling up on the train flicks. The director, who is currently in post-production on The Taking of Pelham 123 remake, has signed on to helm Unstoppable, replacing the previously announced Martin Campbell (Casino Royale). The story follows an unmanned, out of control half-mile-long freight train, carrying combustible liquids and poisonous gas, and an engineer and his conductor in a race against time to stop it before it derails and wipes out a nearby city. Fox is putting the film on the fast-track, with Scott making it his next project and working with screenwriter Mark Bomback to get the flick ready to be shot later this year. Julie Yorn (Max Payne, The Devil's Rejects) is producing, and Scott will board the project as a producer as well. Scott's Pelham stars Denzel Washington and John Travolta in a story centering on passengers on a New York subway train held hostage in return for a ransom. »

While dark and gloomy flicks are nothing new, ever since The Dark Knight destroyed box-office records, Studios have been prepping a lot more “darker” themed projects. The latest, Jack the Giant Killer, comes from New Line and will be directed by D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye, Disturbia). The flick is a drama that takes an adult look at the Jack and the Beanstalk fairy tale. When a princess is kidnapped, a long-standing peace between men and giants becomes threatened, and a young farmer is given an opportunity to lead a dangerous expedition to the giant kingdom to rescue her. Darren Lemke, writer/director of the indie thriller Lost starring Dean Cain, penned the script. Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard, Deception, Godsend) did a rewrite. The production is expected to be bigger in scale and budget than Caruso’s previous films. Neal Moritz (I Am Legend) and David Dobkin (Fred Claus) will produce. »
