The idea of a "Pinocchio from the future" got me curious, although I wasn't expecting too much from it. Perhaps because I like so much Walt Disney's "Pinocchio" and Steven Spielberg's "A.I.: Artificial Intelligence", I wanted to know how would it be a Pinocchio's tale in the future.
"Pinocchio 3000" is a typical computer animated (or GGI) film. Without being a major disappointment, it is nevertheless quite mediocre. We can't compare it to the magical and wonderful movie experience that Walt Disney's "Pinocchio" and Steven Spielberg's "A.I.: Artificial Intelligence" are.
However, "Pinocchio 3000" has its good things. I liked very much its futuristic visuals and sceneries (which are very well done and create that futuristic atmosphere needed). However, the story is weak, the humor is irritating, the characters are annoying, ugly and terribly designed (natural limitations of the CGI films, a huge contrast with the hand-drawn animation) and nothing really good happens nearly during the whole movie.
Because everything is changed, it just isn't the same thing. Besides the completely different art-style, there are numerous major differences either. For example, Pinocchio isn't a puppet, but a robot; instead of Jiminy Cricket, Pinocchio has a penguin as his conscience; Cleo and Figaro no longer exist; there are no coachman and Stromboli - instead, there is Scamboli; the village isn't Collodi anymore, but Scamboville; Honest John and Gideon do not exist too; among other differences.
Now a friendly advice: if you want to keep Pinocchio's good image, then just stick with Walt Disney's masterpiece. On the other hand, if you want a really good alternative to Disney's classic, then there is only one choice: Steven Spielberg's "A.I.: Artificial Intelligence".
