Much Better Than I Expected, Decent Thriller

I read the teviews of other viewers here on IMDb. Most of them pretty much seemed to slate this movie, and I thought I had made a mistake renting Cold Creek Manor. You know I am actually glad that I read the reviews because I went into this film expecting utter garbage. It was therefore a pleasant surprise to discover that I enjoyed it and found a decent enough thriller movie. I must admit from the blurb I had read on the rental site I thought it was going to be a haunted house flick, which it certainly isn't. Don't get me wrong, the film isn't a classic and I wouldn't even say it was great, but in my eyes it certainly deserves more than its low rating and the terrible reviews received here. Perhaps the people who have voted so poorly are the teen-horror-special-fx-gore-fan generation who rented in on the belief (as I did) that it was actually a horror movie of the truest form. I don't want to give away too much of the plot. The acting was sound through-out (Juliette Lewis is starting to look like an old person trying to look young!), and whilst yes predictable, it in some ways reminded me of Cape Fear. A family in peril from someone who is quite clearly a psychopath, the family know it (as do the audience) but aren't really able to do anything about it. Not all films with murderers have to be murder mysterys. Definitely worth a watch.
