Marvelous Meryl Streep wins her first Oscar!!, 9 March 2003
Author: SkippyDevereaux from Parkersburg, West Virginia

Meryl Streep wins her first Oscar for "Kramer vs. Kramer", and the film itself ends up with five of those little gold men!! The others being for-- Picture, Actor (Dustin Hoffman), Director and Screenplay. Sally Field wins Best Actress for "Norma Rae". I wonder how Jane Fonda, Jill Clayburgh or Faye Dunaway felt after seeing Sally Field take home the Oscar after they turned the part down. An upset in the supporting actor catagory, as many predicted that Mickey Rooney would win for "The Black Stallion", only to see Melvyn Douglas win for "Being There". A good program, and although Sally Field did a great job as "Norma Rae', I was hoping to see Bette Midler win for "The Rose"--now that was a great performance. But at least Miss Midler got nominated!!
