Trivia:
Writer Keith Kjornes wrote the screenplay for this film in one day. The film had been funded, cast and was in preproduction based on 16 pages of notes from Director Greg Carter and star 'Derrick ‘D-Reck’ Dixon'. Carter needed a script to shoot from and Kjornes wrote a 94 page shooting script for the film on June 19th, 2004. Carter went into production five weeks later. moreFAQ

"Survival Of The Illest" is a decent urban drama. It's better than such genre fare as "State Property" or "Urban Menace". It's not as good as "Juice" Or "Gang Tapes". There is no plot. It's just a bunch of scenes cobbled together with rappers "acting". The gunfight in the beginning is funny because homeys get shot and forget they are hit and there's no motivation for the gunfight at all. What I don't like about this movie is that there is one scene at a pool hall that just never ends.
However, what I like about this movie is that there is less editing tricks than "Belly". This movie should tide your homey cravings until "State Property 2" comes out on video.
