More People to be Slain ... One By One

19 November 2009 1:32 AM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Tony Todd knows a lot about creating iconic horror characters, and with the latest slasher film One By One, there looks to be another looming on the horizon. Are you ready to meet Railroad Jack the Reaper?

According to The Hollywood Reporter horror actors Douglas Tait (Freddy vs. Jason) and Todd, along with Sally Kirkland(!), have lined up for One By One, a teen horror movie that serves as the first feature entry from Kilo Entertainment.

The film, written by and to be directed and exec produced by Kilo founder Kimberly Seilhamer, follows a villain named Railroad Jack the Reaper (Tait) and his carnival of destruction called Death’s Door. When a bus carrying a group of teens crashes on a deserted highway, Railroad Jack picks them off one by one.

A familiar plot indeed, but let's hope for some good old fashioned splattery fun like the days when said »

'Friday The 13th': Ranking The Series From Top To Bottom

13 November 2009 12:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

by Kyle Anderson

Today is Friday the 13th, the unluckiest day of the year! That gives me an excuse to indulge in one of my favorite pasttimes as an amateur "Friday the 13th" historian. I can't remember when my obsession with the adventures of Jason Voorhees really began, but I do know that I've studied this series from top to bottom multiple times.

Perhaps you're new to the "Friday" game and need some guidance. The natural urge would be to start from the beginning, but that would be a mistake that would result in sadness and nausea. Since the continuity between movies doesn't matter in the slightest, it's best to take them out of order. But where to start? Glad you asked. Here are the 12 "Friday the 13th" films, ranked in order of greatness from truly excellent to whatever "Jason Goes to Hell" is. Stay lucky!

Halloween List-Making Invades The MTV Newsroom

30 October 2009 12:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

For this week's final Halloween movies list, I decided to turn hit up the real superstars: my co-workers here in the MTV Newsroom who keep this great ship moving every damn day. After the jump you'll find recommendations and reminiscences from around the office. If you're game for some heavy reading, make sure to check out the last write-up, detailing Joel Hanek's pick: "Ernest Scared Stupid." Oh yes, he went there.

As for myself (MTV Movies Blog editor Adam Rosenberg), it's a toss-up. To this day I still have occasional nightmares relating to "Candyman," the Bernard Rose-directed, Virginia Madsen-starring horror flick based on a tale by novelist Clive Barker. There's something uniquely terrifying about the Candyman's ability to attack at any time, day or night. When horror can touch you even in the relative safety of sunlight, that's something to fear.

The other one that still gets me, »

Hellboy writer to direct Mortis Rex

27 October 2009 10:02 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Variety reports that Peter Briggs (pictured) will direct the supernatural actioner Mortis Rex for Frelaine Productions. One of the producers is Jim Jacks, whose credits include the Mummy series and a few films for Sam Raimi (who named David Paymer’s Drag Me To Hell character after him).

Mortis is set in Rome circa 122 A.D. and focuses on a disgraced war hero who gets a chance to salvage his reputation when he’s assigned to investigate strange and violent killings at a garrison. The producing team also includes Stuart Pollok, Matthew Dench and Marisa Kagan; Briggs, who co-wrote the first Hellboy feature, first broke onto the screenwriting scene with a highly regarded but eventually abandoned Alien Vs. Predator spec script, and has subsequently worked on Freddy Vs. Jason and an aborted period version of The War Of The Worlds. Shooting on Mortis Rex is scheduled to start next spring on British, »

Exclusive Sneak Preview: Check Into FEARnet's Fear Clinic

Hm... The guy who played Freddy Kruger forcing people to confront their deepest fears? In webisodes we can watch for free? And the Friday the 13th franchise has something to do with this?

We're sold. But then again, we did see Freddy vs. Jason on opening night. And FEARnet's brand-new web series Fear Clinic features not just Nightmare on Elm Street's Robert Englund, but also Kane Hodder, who played the not-exactly-beloved Jason Voorhees.

In five webisodes debuting on FEARnet this Monday through Friday, Englund's maniacal Dr. Andover tries to cure his patients' darkest fears with terrifying hallucinations. Would you believe it all goes down in a reliably creepy old hospital? Hodder plays ...

Rapid Fire: The Haunted Airman, Infestation

14 October 2009 12:12 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

While out of town on personal business I had a little difficulty tracking down this weeks DVD releases. Unable to fall back on my trusty local shops, I was forced to rely on outside sources to lead me to decent outlets. And though I was lead to a few fair retailers, I was still unable to snag a few of the flicks I was seeking; Gnaw, The Objective, and Imurders are three particular releases I was anticipating that sadly, evaded my grasp. Perhaps once back home I'll be able to provide a little coverage on the aforementioned films; for now, we'll discuss the two discs I did manage to obtain.

After a U.K. television release The Haunted Airman sat in DVD limbo for three plus years. After picking up this 2006 ghost tale it's not hard understand why. Injured pilot Toby (The Twilight Saga's Robert Pattinson) Jugg returns home after being paralyzed in action. »

Next 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' And 'Star Trek 2' To Be 3-D?

9 October 2009 8:00 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

How satisfied were you with the 2003 "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" remake? If your answer is "not very satisfied," maybe you'll appreciate that the horror classic is being redone again. Variety reports that Twisted Pictures, the company behind the "Saw" movies, has acquired the rights to the "Chainsaw" franchise with plans for another -- that's the second in less than a decade, for those not keeping score at home -- reboot and multiple sequels.

This time around, Leatherface and family (and victims) will reside in modern times, as Twisted Pictures wants a contemporary horror film rather than the '60s and '70s settings of the remake and its 2006 prequel, "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning."

Another thing that will make this remake different: 3-D. This is fitting for Twisted, which recently went into production on "Saw VII 3-D." And it's actually a welcome format for the "Chainsaw" franchise, because that titular »

Friday The 13th Sequel Gets An Official Release Date

The next movie in the Friday The 13th series has received an official release date, and yes…you’ve guessed it! It will be on Friday 13th August 2010!

The last film, released in cinemas earlier this year topped the Us box office during its first weekend with $42m (£26m) in ticket sales.

In the last movie, five teens – Wade, Ritchie, Amanda, Mike and Whitney travel to Camp Crystal Lake on the hunt for marijuana where the group is brutally murdered by Jason Voorhees. Six weeks later, Whitney’s brother Clay goes to Crystal Lake searching for his missing sister, distributing flyers with Whitney’s picture on it to the locals. Clay eventually discovers the »

DVD Review: ‘Fear Itself’ Has a Few Highlights, But More Lowlights

28 September 2009 3:02 PM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – I am an unabashed junkie of anthology horror shows and will gladly debate with you why “The Twilight Zone” is the best show of all time before we get to discussing “The Outer Limits,” “Amazing Stories,” and “Tales From the Crypt.” Naturally, I was a big fan of Showtime’s “Masters of Horror” and was intrigued when a lot of that series’ major players jumped to NBC for “Fear Itself”. The show was a ratings failure and got very little buzz and the first season DVD makes it clear why. Even for an anthology show fan, this is a tough sell.

DVD Rating: 2.0/5.0 “Fear Itself” features thirteen episodes that aired on NBC during the summer of 2008. Like “Masters of Horror” (both shows were produced by the legendary Mick Garris), each episode was directed by a different horror writer and director. And like “Moh” the quality jumps wildly from episode »

First Trailer For A Nightmare On Elm Street

One, two, Freddy’s coming for you…That’s right boys and girls of Elm Street! The bastard son of a hundred maniacs is coming back to theaters next spring, and after months of waiting, all those who didn’t have the pleasure of attending the panel at last July’s San Diego Comic-Con finally have their first look of the new face of the dream demon in this fantastic trailer for the Platinum Dunes remake of “A Nightmare on Elm Street”, set to terrorize screens in April, 2010. Hit the jump to see the trailer for yourself!

Judging from this trailer, which is almost exactly the Comic-Con footage with a bit more dialogue and a different glimpse of Freddy, this film is set to be the best remake Platinum Dunes has produced yet. As a guy who isn’t too thrilled with the number of remakes, reboots, and re-imaginings coming »

Freddy's back in new 'Nightmare on Elm Street' trailer

Not every horror franchise reboot has worked, but after you watch this new preview you'll be counting the days to the new "Nightmare on Elm Street." Director Samuel Bayer and Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes productions has taken the franchise back to its horrifying roots.  This if far from the campy and ludicrous "Freddy vs. Jason" from 2003.Pretty much the same footage that blew audiences away at Comic-Con this past july, the new trailer provides a more sympathetic origin of Freddy Krueger and demonstrates why Jackie Earle Haley was the perfect choice to play him.  His victims?  Another round of good... »

Exclusive: Powerman 5000: The Spectacular Spider One!

Part II of our exclusive coverage (read part I here) from the set of Powerman 5000's "Super Villain" from their new album Somewhere On The Other Side Of Nowhere (see our advance review here).

On a rubble strewn indoor set in Alhambra, California, Powerman 5000 frontman Spider One sings and gyrates for his new video "Supervillain". Directed by Almost Human FX wizard Rob Hall, Spider explains "it's everything in his life flashing through a supervillain's head right before he dies!"

Taking a quick break, the singer explains, "It's all about robots, villains and destruction!"

Pat Jankiewicz/Fangoria: I see a big Marvel Comics/Jack Kirby influence on this video...

Spider One: There is--i was a Marvel kid growing up. When I was really young collecting comics, I didn't 'get' Jack Kirby. I collected in the age of George Perez and John Byrne. Those are my favorite artists; John Byrne »

HorrorClix Rise from the Grave

Wizkids seemed to Just be getting things started with their HorrorClix line, having released Aliens vs. Predator, Hellboy and Freddy vs. Jason sets alongside all their original tiny horrors. Sure, the line had been pumping along for some time, but the addition of hardcore licensed baddies opened the possibility that you could pit any character from your favorite horror film against heavyweights like Michael Myers and Pumpkinhead in the not so distant future. Alas, Topps announced the demise of Wizkids and all hope was lost...until now.

Neca dropped an Easter Egg into their San Diego Comic-Con booth with the appearance of a little bitty figure of Marvel Comic's Thor riding a chariot. Now, Neca drops the bomb officially...

The National Entertainment Collectibles Association, Inc. (Neca) has purchased the majority of the assets of WizKids, Inc. from The Topps Company, Inc., including the award-winning Clix family of games, which includes HeroClix, »

Ronny Yu Faces Fear Itself

14 September 2009 10:51 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Fear Itself: Season 1 is finally heading to DVD on September 15th. NBC's chilling anthology series was an offshoot of Showtime's very popular collaborative experiment Masters of Horror, and like that show, Fear Itself allowed some of horror's biggest and best known directors to create their own self-contained stories that tied into a bigger mythology. Created by Masters of Horror's Mick Garris, this latest horrifying shocker of a series also utilized some of the biggest horror writers working today. John Landis, Breck Eisner, Stuart Gordon, and Darren Lynn Bousman are just some of the famous names that helped create this thirteen-episode experience in sheer terror. Also throwing his directorial hand into the mix is Ronny Yu, best known for concocting such spook house staples as Freddy vs. Jason and Bride Of Chucky. Yu, working with acclaimed sci-fi and horror writer Dan Knauf, crafted the third episode entitled "Family Man »
