• Errors in geography: Near the end of the movie, as a voiceover speaks of the Semmering Pass railway from Austria to Italy, we are shown a train of the Rhätische Bahn (or Rhaetian Railway). Except for a very short section in Italy, the RhB operates only in Switzerland; it's nowhere near the Semmering Pass.
  
  
• Errors in geography: The domed church appearing on what is assumed to be the outskirts of Cortona, where the film takes place, is actually on the outskirts of Todi in Umbria.
  
  
• Continuity: When in the cafe eating the ice cream, the ice cream changes shape from one round ball to a dollop between shots.
  
  

• Errors in geography: When Frances returns to Positano to meet with Marcello, she is at sea-level. Most (if not all) busses to Positano come in from the hillside as most of the city is almost vertical along the cliffside. She would not have entered the city from the bottom and then climb, she would have to come in from the top and go down.
  
  
• Crew or equipment visible: Before Francesca first kisses Marcello on the beach, a light sheet is visible reflected in her sunglasses.
  
  
• Continuity: When Frances is calling Patti from the phone booth right before it rains, her hair changes from behind her ear/pulled back neatly to in front of her ear/slightly messy
  
  
• Continuity: When Frances meets Marcello, she is being pursued by a group of men. As she runs around a corner, her boots are visible underneath her dress and they are medium brown or tan. Later on that same day, when Frances and Marcello start making love in the antiques store, her boots are black.
  
  
• Continuity: When Patti is lying on the bed in Frances' house, she is lying on her left side with a pillow under her head. In the next shot, she's lying supine, then reaches for the pillow to turn on her left side.
  
  
• Continuity: When Frances is sitting at the desk, the kitten is sitting on the front of the desk. In the next frame, as Frances gets up, the kitten is gone. From the kitten's posture on the desk, it would not have been able to move out of sight that quickly.
  
  
• Continuity: When Senor Martini is next to the fireplace telling Frances about the train tracks through the mountains, the box of matches behind him move around the top of the fire place.
