Trivia:

The black & white footage shown to Julian Rome is footage from The Thing from Another World (1951). This footage was also used in the remake of The Thing from Another World, John Carpenter's The Thing (1982), and it is the film that R.J. MacReady finds in the destroyed Norwegian camp.

Goofs:

Anachronisms: Despite the modern, post-USSR insignia that the crew of the Russian submarine wear, the commander addresses an officer as "tovarischi" or "comrades", which is then translated to "gentlemen" in the subtitles.

Adequate time waster

Not exactly the most original sci-fi movie ever. Seems to have taken elements from the Thing, and Aliens, among others. Seems like one of James Spader's take this money and run flicks. Some interesting special effects. Good looking women (and of course there must women in bikinis in the Antartic, how could there not be?). Leave your brain behind at home, and watch this movie with some popcorn.
