Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, that you instead use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

Note: The number at the beginning of each section refers to how much explicit content of that kind there is in the film on a scale of 1-10. The fraction at the end of the last section is the total sum of the sections over the highest sum possible (50) and is therefore an approximation of about how explicit the film is a whole.

Sex & Nudity: 2

As Jack puts his hand on Elizabeth's shoulder, he says that the company and sights (meaning her) are better this time on an island than the last, but she informs him that they haven't had enough rum for talk like that. Jack calls Will a "eunuch."

Violence & Gore

Violence & Gore: 6

In scenes we see men turn into gruesome, decaying skeletons when they are hit by moonlight.

A man is shot in the chest and blood soaks his shirt then he falls over dead.

Dead pirate corpses are seen hung by nooses. (no blood)

An axe digs into a pirate's back, but no blood is shown.

A pirate is stabbed (not shown), then we see blood on the retracted knife

An undead pirate's wooden eye comically comes out a few times.

It is implied that a man has his head cut off. (Not shown though.)

It is implied that a man is stabbed by an undead pirate, but this is not shown.

A woman's hand is cut slightly with a knife.

There is a battle scene between the living and the undead, but it is done under moonlight and nothing overly graphic is shown.

Profanity

Profanity: 3

Damn and hell is used correctly many times. 1 use of D-mn as profanity.

Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking: 4

There's talk of rum runners and Jack then opens a compartment on an island filled with bottles of rum. Elizabeth comments on his last stay on the island consisting of lying on the beach and drinking rum and he replies, "Welcome to the Caribbean." We then later see him and Elizabeth and both are drunk. Both drink some more, with him guzzling his down and then passing out. When he wakes up the next morning, she's burning the rum (as a rescue signal).

Frightening/Intense Scenes: 4

The various sights of pirates that turn (completely or partially) into living skeletons (and partially decomposed bodies) when moonlight hits them may frighten younger viewers.

An idea of how accurate the TECE (below) is: 5-10 is a little-kid suitable, G-Rated type of film (i.e. Care Bears, Sleeping Beauty); 10-15 is going to be a little harsher, but not by much (i.e. The Incredibles); 15-20 could be pretty high up there (i.e. THIS), 20-25 is going to pretty darn adult (i.e. The Dark Knight); 25-30 is going to be a film most likely not suitable for anyone under 17 (i.e. Braveheart); 30-40 is going to be an absolutely, positively adults-only film (i.e. Saving Private Ryan) and if a movie has ever gone past 40, then I haven't heard of it.

Total Explicit Content Estimation: 19/50
