Uwe Boll’s Far Cry Trailer: A Return to Form for Dr. Boll

18 November 2009 8:09 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

After seeing his latest film Rampage at Fantastic Fest just last month, we thought we'd seen a turning point for director Uwe Boll. Finally, the man had delivered a gritty, intense action movie that rose above his usual bit of schlock. For once, he had delivered something worth talking about in a positive way -- worth recommending to friends and countrymen. It had me excited to see where he would go next in his always-busy schedule of film releases. Which brings us to Far Cry, yet another adaptation of a popular video game. Like Boll's previous adaptations of games such as Bloodrayne, House of the Dead, Dungeon Siege and Postal, Far Cry appears to be a mess of the highest order. At least, that's what I've gathered from this first teaser trailer, which comes courtesy of IGN. Since his role in Inglourious Basterds, I've thought Til Schwiger to be one of the more badass actors in Hollywood »

Uwe Boll’s Far Cry Movie Trailer

17 November 2009 7:00 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

World's Worst Director is Back: Uwe Boll's 'Darfur'

4 November 2009 7:33 AM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

I would very much like to begin and program an Uwe Boll Film Festival. It would truly be one of a kind. BloodRayne, Alone in the Dark, In the Name of the King, House of the Dead, Postal - how could you go wrong? On second thought, don't answer that.

Boll keeps working, though most of the universe is at a loss as to how. He has four films in production, and managed to work in four movies this year, too. All of this on the heels of this year's Lifetime Achievement Award from the Razzies, which is not the sort of thing you go to film school in hopes of attaining.

One of his many upcoming films is Darfur, which as you can imagine, is Uwe's sensitive, artistic interpretation of one of the worst genocides in modern civilization. Gee, I wonder if there will be blood. Actually, in the interest of fairness, »

Uwe Boll’s “Storm” Looks … Good?

2 November 2009 7:46 PM, PST | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

The only man in Hollywood busier than Ridley Scott must be Uwe Boll, who has had a videogame-to-film adaptation in theaters or on DVD every twelve minutes since House of the Dead. But word on the streets from Fantastic Fest was that his latest, Rampage, was actually quite good (and not based on any previously existing properties).

Now comes the trailer for his next, a little moody film called Storm, or Final Storm, written by Tim McGregor. The film stars Dumb and Dumber’s Lauren Holly and a back-from-the-abyss Luke Perry, and describes itself via this lengthy (and spoiler-heavy) synopsis:

“Biblical rain, dying animals and a blood red moon. Clearly, all is not well on the quiet farm in the countryside where Tom makes a living with his wife Gillian and their young son Graham. Before the cable and power goes out, glimpses of weather related catastrophes on a global scale are hinted upon. »

First Trailer for Uwe Boll's Film About the Genocide in Darfur

2 November 2009 4:02 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Yes, you read that headline correctly. Dr. Uwe Boll, the notorious filmmaker behind the likes of House of the Dead, Bloodrayne, In the Name of the King: a Dungeon Siege Tale, Alone in the Dark, and Postal, has made a film - a serious one - about the ongoing conflict in the Darfur region of Sudan. I imagine you're as surprised as everyone else.

I first heard about the film, titled simply Darfur, about a month ago at the Fantastic Fest Q&A for Boll's man-on-a-killing-spree movie Rampage. The director casually referred to the film as if it was no big deal, though it was obvious that everyone in the room was as stunned as I. When pressed for more information, Boll explained that he felt the world was turning a blind eye to the crimes against humanity that are committed daily in Darfur, and that as an artist, the »

The Sandbox: Five Rules for Making a Decent Video Game Adaptation

23 October 2009 11:08 AM, PDT | ifc.com | See recent IFC news »

For the past 20 years or so, Hollywood has seemed intent on proving that video games aren't fit to be cinematic source material. How else to explain the dismal quality of the average game-to-film adaptation? But games and movies aren't inherently incompatible, provided that directors use some common sense when heading down that treacherous adaptation path. Here's my list of five guidelines that, if followed to the letter, should help future filmmakers succeed where so many before them have stumbled.

1. Costume changes are okay.

As with comics, video game heroes are often defined by their distinctive get-ups. And in certain instances -- like Lara Croft's snug spelunking short-shorts and T-shirt -- those outfits are capable of making a relatively easy transition to the silver screen. But the rest of the time, keeping a little too close to a game character's clothing makes it impossible to take the material seriously.

Hair Club For Men Wins Worst Zombie Game of 2009

19 October 2009 3:03 AM, PDT | HugAZombie | See recent HugAZombie news »

If an award was to be presented (and we might have to start it here) for the worst video game based on a product tie-in, the winner for 2009 would go to Hair Club for Men.  Capitalizing on the the lucrative balding zombie market, they have created "Dead Sexy: Invasion of the Bald Zombies".  Seriously?  An invasion of bald zombies?  Explain the cause of that!

Your hair will not come back from the dead.

The game is essentially a House of the Dead style rail shooter.  And it is a slow one at that.  I'm assuming that Hair Club for Men believes their clients have never seen nor played a video game and must make it as simple as possible.  As a person who is folically challenged himself, I find this insulting.

If you've been tempted to play but thought, "I don't have time for bad video games" not to worry, »

Is ‘Rampage’ Uwe Boll’s First Good Movie?

5 October 2009 9:30 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

No you didn’t read the title wrong and no, Screen Rant isn’t pulling your chain. As I sit here in Hell putting on my winter parka, I find myself reading rumblings from the web that the most famous blind squirrel in Hollywood history may have actually found his nut. That’s right; it would appear that Uwe Boll (BloodRayne, House of the Dead) has actually made a Good movie with Rampage. So now we have to decide: is the world coming to an end or has the director actually found his stride?

Now, it would appear through word of mouth at Fantastic Fest that Uwe Boll’s latest offering, Rampage, is actually Good! Yeah, I know, pick your jaw up off the floor. Rampage stars Brendan Fletcher as a guy that gets fed up with his life, so he builds a suit made of Kevlar, stocks up on »

Fantastic Fest 09: Pigs can still fly. Another glowing review of Rampage

Year: 2009

Rating: 8 out of 10

[Editor's note: This is our Second glowing review of Rampage from that director we all really hate. You can read our first from L'Etrange here.]

"House of the Dead". "Alone in the Dark". "In the Name of the King". Picture in your head an image or two from any of these movies. Now try these: "Taxi Driver". "Falling Down". "The King of Comedy". "Combat Shock". It's a pretty dissonant mix, I admit, but it goes some way to explaining just how messed up it is to walk out of a movie by one of fandom's most reviled directors thinking we're all about to eat some crow. "Rampage", the latest film by boxer/director Uwe Boll, every film critic's favorite whipping boy, is a good movie. A really good one.

Uwe Boll's Rampage is Getting Glowing Reviews

30 September 2009 8:30 PM, PDT | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

Uwe Boll has been called the worst director of all time for such bombs as "House of the Dead," "Alone in the Dark" and "BloodRayne." But now, several critics who have had the chance to see his "Rampage" thriller are claiming that the film is actually good... Very good. "Rampage" revolves around Bill who grows fed up with his dead end existence and the world in general. Bill decides to vent his frustrations by stock-piling an arsenal of high-powered weaponry and constructing a full-body Kevlar suit of armor to go on a murderous rampage through the streets of his hometown, killing everyone in sight. Check out the trailer and some reviews of the film below: SlashFilm.com: Uwe Boll has made a good movie. Not a great movie, but a decent film. Not just good in comparison to the rest of his filmography, but a good movie in its own right. »

'Wet' Review

24 September 2009 11:12 AM, PDT | MTV Multiplayer | See recent MTV Multiplayer news »

Developer Artificial Mind and Movement's "Wet" (actually "Wet") may very well be the most cinematically rich video game released this year. It's got tough competition in Headstrong Games' "House of the Dead: Overkill," at least stylistically, but "Wet serves up a more cohesive narrative. The gameplay can be trying at times, especially since it adheres very closely to a specific formula, but it's tight enough that it should please fans of run 'n gun action.

The Basics

In "Wet," you play Rubi: a katana-wielding, dual pistol-toting badass of an anti-heroine. She jumps, she dives, she runs along walls... and she kills legions of bad guys with wild abandon. Think a brunette version of "Kill Bill"'s The Bride, only motivated by money rather than vengeance. In terms of the gameplay, "Wet" is essentially a "Stranglehold" or "Max Payne" styled affair, only with heaping doses of Quentin Tarantino thrown in to keep things moving. »

Danielle Harris ('Halloween' 4 & 5, 'Rob Zombie's Halloween' 1 & 2)

28 August 2009 12:00 AM, PDT | Pretty/Scary | See recent pretty-scary news »

Danielle Harris stars in the new Halloween sequel by Rob Zombie. It’s a crap movie, but Danielle Harris, who was brought back into the franchise last year by Zombie for his remake, actually starred in the original Halloween 4 and 5, in which she played Jamie Lloyd, the target of Michael Myer’s wrath. In Zombie’s Halloween II, she reprises her role as Annie Brackett, the ill-fated friend of Lori Strode who bravely takes on nudity in an un-Jamie Lloyd way.

But Danielle Harris is much more than funny anecdotes about how much Donald Pleasance scared her when she was a kid because he was always drunk on the set and wearing a gross fake scar; she’s a clever woman with filmmaking aspirations of her own. She tells Pretty/Scary about how the Halloween franchise is now a part of her life...

Despite what you may think, Harris »

What's up Fango Fiends? Uwe Boll giving another entertaining interview, that's what!

Did you know that Fango blogger Chris Alexander once boxed Uwe in Canada? Well, in his former life as a writer for that wacky bunch at Rue Morgue, he went head-to-head with Das Boll, and... lost.

But that's not the point of this. Uwe Boll is currently at The Cannes Film Festival shopping a 6-minute promo for his latest foray into real-life horror, Darfur. The folks at Movieset sat down with the legendary director of Postal, In The Name Of The King, and the classic 2003 film House Of The Dead for a video interview which we've got below.

"I've made a decision that I will not to go to festivals anymore where they have applications where I have to pay a submitting fee. Because I'm sure that it's only they steal all the submitting fees and they just don't looks the movies. »
