  • Anachronisms: Though set in 1976, Coach Jones drives a 1979 Ford F-150 Custom Pickup Truck.

  • Anachronisms: When the Coach and Radio were leaving the church, there is a 1979 Lincoln Town Car in the parking lot, even though the movie is set in 1976.

  • Anachronisms: Early in the movie, in a scene featuring Coach Jones in his office, behind him is a coke bottle commemorating Paul "Bear" Bryant as the winningest coach in college football. That coke bottle was made after his retirement in 1982, and the movie takes place in 1976.

  • Crew or equipment visible: When Radio looks into the ornaments, you can see the reflection of the camera during the close-up.

  • Continuity: When Coach Jones arrives at the jail to pick up Radio, Radio turns and says "There's coach!" and as he gestures at coach, he uses his right hand, which is holding a sandwich. In the next shot, we see the back of Radio's head and the sandwich is in his lap.

  • Anachronisms: The John Deere cap that the guy is wearing in one of the barber shop scenes has a Deere logo on it that was not in use when the movie took place.

  • Anachronisms: Just before Coach Jones resigns as football coach he is watching "Archie Bunker's Place" on TV. "Archie Bunker's Place" (1979) did not premiere until 1979.

  • Anachronisms: The sunglasses that Coach wears are Ray-Bans, as you can see by the logo painted on the lens as he takes Radio home. But Ray-Ban did not start putting the logo on the lenses until the late-'80s.

  • Continuity: Mrs Kennedy and Coach Jones are having tea. Mrs Kennedy turns off the burner and moves the teapot to another spot on the stove. Then has tea with Coach Jones who puts sugar in the cup but the hot-water is never added before they drink the tea.

  • Continuity: When Coach Jones calls out the nine who are to run all the way to the line until he says to quit, they are viewed from behind walking to the field to start their runs. In this view they pass Coach Jones, but in the next shot they have yet to pass Coach.

  • Continuity: When Coach Jones and Johnny are talking about telling Radio to go in the girls locker room, in one shot his collar on his shirt is sticking out, but in the next shot it is inside his jacket.

  • Anachronisms: In the Barbershop when the coach resigns there's a shot of a man wearing a John Deere trucker hat. The deer on the hat is jumping upward instead of downward. The upward deer didn't happened until 2000 making it way out of place for a movie set in 1976.

  • Anachronisms: The footballs used throughout the movie have a gold "Spalding" logo on them. While common today, gold logos were not used in any major level of football before the early '90s, when Wilson put a gold imprint on its NFL balls.

  • Anachronisms: At the beginning of the movie when the man skids his car yells at Radio and says "What's wrong with you, boy?" he is in a 1977 Ford Ranchero. 1977 was the first year Ford used that style of front end (or "clip" as some people call front end sections) and as stated before, the movie is set in 1976.

  • Continuity: During the scene where Coach Jones, Radio, and Coach Honeycutt are in the office eating burgers, Coach Jones opens his burger box and eats the burger. After Coach Honeycutt gives Radio his drink, the next scene shows Jones with a closed burger box, he then opens it with a fresh burger inside and eats it.

  • Continuity: When Coach Jones goes to Radio's house after he's arrested and brings him food he's shown with two fries in his hand, in the wide shot, as coach Jones tells him he did a good thing. The next close up, Radio is pictured with only one French fry in his hand.
