Amazing how little it takes to please the critics, as long as it fits current politically-correct fads of ethnic diversity, e.g., Hispanic boy pursues Hispanic girl in Brooklyn. Transplant the same exact story to the white suburbs of Toledo, Ohio, say, and you'd have a very lame movie. Didn't find protagonist, Victor, all that sympathetic; too much the usual teenage-punk hip-hop daddy cliche. Elegant idyllic ending must have swayed reviewers to overlook rest of film's failings.
Recommend movie "Our Song" for a much better look into the lives of a somewhat similar group of NYC teenagers.
