Is this based on a book?

It is based on a trilogy of comics written and drawn by Enki Bilal (who also directed the film). The movie draws heavily from volumes one and two ('Carnival of the Immortals' and 'The Woman Trap') with some elements from the third ('Equator Cold') as well. The film does take some liberties in adapting the source material in an effort to make the story more cinematic.
