this is great but this is not a mass-appeal flick

This is a rather simple story that gets a bit complicated. Heaton goes to pick up his mate Spike from prison (in a stolen vehicle) and they set off to go have a good time, but run out of gas on the motorway, therefore having to go search for some and running afoul of a farmer who has apparently dealt with pilfering before (with a gun) and when the tables are turned on Mr. Farmer, Spike accidentally shoots the farmers daughter, after which he and Heaton take flight through the woods and across the moors. But, a bunch of the farmers friends and neighbors form a posse and pursue them. Most of this is the two hapless thugs trying to survive out on the moors and is somewhat of a character study, I would say, but it's well done and entertaining. Spike is none too bright and is the more interesting of the two, and although this has moments of humor, however dark, I wouldn't call it "funny" (like the box says). The ending is a rather unexpected twist. Of course we get to hear various renderings of "This is not a Love Song" (PIL) throughout, including orchestral, which is actually kind of nice and fits in well, but I'm not really sure what that or the title have to do with the movie. No matter though, this is well worth seeing but it's no mainstream film by any means. It's got some thrills and even a few chills, check it out. 8 out of 10.
