Bruce Springsteen Closes Giants Stadium With Covers, Crowd Surfing

By Lindsay Wallace

On Thursday and Friday (October 8 and 9), the legendary Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band rocked Giants Stadium with the final concert performances at the venue (the stadium is being demolished in favor of a new building for football's Giants and Jets beginning next season).

At the start of the show on Thursday, Bruce came out to the center of the stage in front of 60,000 screaming fans, smiled and waved before grabbing his microphone and launching into "Wrecking Ball," the song written specifically for the occasion of Giants Stadium's demise. The tribute consists of lyrics like, "My home is here in these Meadowlands/ Where mosquitoes grow big as airplanes/ Through the mud and the beer, I've seen champions come and go/ So if you got the goods mister, if you got the balls/ Then step in line and bring on your wrecking ball!"

Kevin Smith’s at it Again…Sort Of

8 October 2009 8:22 PM, PDT | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

Good and bad news for fans of director Kevin Smith: he’s got a couple of projects in the works. If you’re a fan of Smith’s, this should be good news, so what’s the bad? Smith is going in a different direction than what we’ve all grown used to.

When Kevin Smith released Jersey Girl in 2004, he veered drastically from the type of films that had given him a name in film-making. From movies that centered their comedic value around sarcasm, crassness, and marijuana, Smith went to the opposite extreme, giving audiences sweet, yet fairly drab, family comedy. His subsequent films, Clerks II and Zack and Miri Make a Porno, while not quite the caliber of his first films, seemed like Smith was making a return to his former style. But alas, it was not to be.

Instead, Smith is working on a buddy cop flick, »

Kevin Smith does better with weed

5 October 2009 5:01 AM, PDT | Monsters and Critics | See recent Monsters and Critics news »

Kevin Smith says smoking marijuana makes him a better filmmaker. The 'Zack and Miri Make a Porno' director-and-writer has smoked cannabis-laced cigarettes up to three times a day since Hollywood funnyman Seth Rogen introduced him to the illegal drug last year and thinks it had improved his scripts. He quipped: "I know you're supposed to tell kids not to do drugs, but, kids, do it! Do weed! Don't do the other stuff, but weed is good... What you want to do is what I did, build a movie empire and, at age 38 smoke it all away." The 'Jersey Girl' director finds it hard to direct movies he has written and turns to his pal, comedy filmmaker Judd Apatow, »

The Informant!

The Informant!

Directed by: Steven Soderbergh

Cast: Matt Damon, Scott Bakula, Joel McHale, Melanie Lynskey

Running Time: 1 hr, 48 mins

Rating: R

Release Date: September 18, 2009

Plot: The story of conniving business man Mark Whitacre, a man whose many ulterior motives nearly bring down both his high-paying company, and the F.B.I. Though presented as a true story, the film insists there have been various entertainment-inducing liberties that were taken to present a more light-hearted depiction of the events that transpired from 1992 to 1996.

Who’s It For? Those who still aren’t convinced Matt Damon has any relative range as an actor. Soderbergh has yet to include “spoof comedy” to his illustrious directorial career, and even the greats have muffed such opportunities up. This is a film you should see if you are curious about what happens when two popular Hollywood talents put their reputations on the line, and spread their wings a bit. »

Extract

Directed by: Mike Judge

Cast: Jason Bateman, Ben Affleck, Mila Kunis, Kristen Wiig

Running Time: 1 hr, 30 mins

Rating: R

Release Date: September 4, 2009

Plot: An odd story about a young business owner who gets word he may finally be able to sell his extract company. Trouble ensues when an uncanny accident sends one of Joel’s (Bateman) employees to the hospital for, uh, losing something important. The aftermath of the incident forces him to re-think his plans, and re-examine the life he thought had been so mind-numbingly drab to begin with.

Who’s It For? Fans of Jason Bateman’s career turn around. This guy may be a one-note sort of actor, but like his young counterpart on Arrested Development Michael Cera, this is one note Mike Judge hopes we don’t mind hearing/seeing yet again.

Expectations: Will Extract do for Ben Affleck’s fledgling acting career what Tropic Thunder »

Smith To Stage Labor Day 'Tweet-athon'

5 September 2009 7:16 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Moviemaker Kevin Smith is planning to spend Labor Day 'tweeting' fans.

The cult Clerks and Jersey Girl director admits he's been training for a marathon Twitter.com session for weeks - and fans can ask him anything on Monday.

A statement from Smith, who boasts over one million Twitter.com followers, reads, "I wanna see if I can do it. I've been training for this my whole life, simply by being a lazy fat-a** who'd rather stare at a screen than better himself with a brisk constitutional (walk). Someone asked what my training regiment is gonna be, and I told them I've already stockpiled lots of Count Chocula (cereal)."

The 24-hour 'tweet-athon' will help launch publicity for Smith's upcoming book, Shootin’ the S**t With Kevin Smith, which hits stores on 22 September. »

iPod embarrassment: The artist photos You flip?

2 September 2009 11:31 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

I've had my iPod Touch for a month, and I've discovered an alarming trend: Anytime David Archuleta's "Crush" comes on — which is apparently often, since it's on my Top 25 Most Played — I hit the little tab on the upper right of the screen to hide his photo. Why? Because I can't chance that someone might see his face in the 45 seconds it takes for the screen to go dark — and just turning the iPod over doesn't seem quite safe enough. Is this something everyone does — flipping the screen to reveal the tiny track title only on the embarrassing tunes — or just me? If you are a flipper, on what songs? After the jump, my (alleged) Top 25 Most Played List, which includes three more flips. 1. "More Like Her" by Miranda Lambert 2. "You're an Angel, and I'm Gonna Cry" by Chris Thile 3.
