An informative and fun documentary, 6 March 2008

"She's Alive! Creating the Bide of Frankenstein" is a fun and fascinating documentary on the creation of one of my favorite Horror films of all time and one of the few sequels that surpassed the original. Unlike the rest of the Universal documentaries, because this is about a sequel, it allows the filmmakers to jump right in without talking about its literary origins and discuss the movie it's self. "Piranha" and "The Howling" director Joe Dante is on hand to narrate this and he's a joy to watch. It's easy to see his passion for this movie. In addition the interviewees make great insights about the movie; telling their interpretations of the movies many levels. There are many interesting stories told about the making of the movie, such as James Whales' reluctance to make the movie, which lead to him making many suggestions to the movie's battle with the censorship board. Sure this could have been longer, but I still left feeling satisfied with my viewing experience. Overall, this is a solid, fun and informative documentary that is well worth checking out. Even if all the information is old to you, there is so much passion and love shown for this film by all those involved its still fun to watch.
