'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' premieres in New York, how big will opening weekend be?

10 July 2009 8:50 PM, PDT | From Twilight Examiner | See recent Twilight Examiner news

While we certainly anticipate The Twilight Saga: New Moon to do well this year, one has to pay homage to the biggest competition of the year - Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince. Having had its world premiere in London earlier this week (see here), Hphbp and its stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint took to the red carpet in New York City last night to celebrate its second big opening. Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone took home over 90 million. The second film, Harry Potter And The Chamber of Secrets, took home 88.35 million in its opening weekend in the same amount of theaters. The third, Harry Potter And The Prisoner of Azkaban, made it to 3,855 theaters for a near 94 million dollar opening. When Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire came out (one which included, as its Cedric Diggory, Robert Pattinson), it took home over 102 million dollars worldwide,

I Love You, Beth Cooper (review)

10 July 2009 12:07 PM, PDT | From www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news

Though he’s never so much as spoken to the poor girl before, nerd announces during his high-school valedictorian speech that he “loves” the “hottest” girl in school. In the real world, this would be called an act of passive-aggressive behavior by an antisocial creep, but in the world of adolescent romantic comedies, this is deemed a charming and daring act by a “nice guy” who’s been oppressed by the “hotness” of certain females into silent inaction... till now. This being a male fantasy -- it’s based on a novel by Larry Doyle [Amazon U.S.] [Amazon U.K.], whom I presume is male -- the “hot” girl (Hayden Panettiere: Shanghai Kiss) is charmed by the nerd (Paul Rust [Semi-Pro], who is, creepily, a decade too old for the role), and proceeds to give him the “night of his life,” an all-night postgraduation party that features a variety of life-threatening events for the nerd: he

Deconstructing Harry, Day 2: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

9 July 2009 9:28 AM, PDT | From Rotten Tomatoes | See recent Rotten Tomatoes news

I'm going to borrow the title of a 4 Non Blondes album for my summation of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: "Bigger, Better, Faster, More." The set pieces are larger, the chemistry between the actors has vastly improved, the film moves along much quicker than the first film, and it's simply a lot more fun to watch. I will say that this movie doesn't really stand on its own though. That's not really a knock against the film -- there are plenty of franchise installments that require knowledge gained from previous entries (The Lord of the Rings, The...

The Battle of the Department of Mysteries changed the game for everyone when it heralded the return of Lord Voldemort in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix." Now, amid all the love triangles at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," Ginny Weasley's crush on Harry and burgeoning potion skills get put to the test.

As the youngest Weasley sibling in one of author J.K. Rowling's largest and most famous families, the girl who started out on the sidelines during "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" and played a crucial role in Voldemort's attempted second

Can 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' break Oscars curse?

5 July 2009 3:51 AM, PDT | From Gold Derby | See recent Gold Derby news

Everyone will be wild about Harry once more with the July 15 release of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince."  But while Harry Potter waves his magic wand over and over, he just can't enchant Oscar voters. Indeed,  Harry Potter is fast becoming the Susan Lucci of the Oscars. Since 2001, his five films have netted just six nods and no wins. "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" (2002) and "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" (2007) weren't nominated for anything! The only Oscar bid cooked up by "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" (2005) was for art direction (it lost to "Memoirs of a Geisha"). "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" (2004) did slightly better, capturing noms for music score and visual effects. It lost to, respectively, "Finding Neverland" and "Spider-Man 2." It was the first flick that conjured up the most Oscar nods. "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" (2001) reaped three nominations: art direction,

Harry Potter's Chris Columbus Approached for Twilight

4 July 2009 3:24 PM, PDT | From TheHDRoom | See recent TheHDRoom news

What if the man behind Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Apprentice and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets had directed Twilight? Would it have made even more cash from a distanced mainstream crowd than it did? In an interview with MTV, director Chris Columbus confided that he received a script during the early stages of adapting the Twilight novel into a film. Instead of jumping on the opportunity he admitted, "...I was doing something else" and turned it down. Missing Twilight and perhaps even The Twilight Saga: New Moon had he knocked the first film out of the park is no skin off Chris' back. He has kept plenty busy with I Love You, Beth Cooper and The Lightning Thief, currently in the casting phase. Twilight could have been a lot less cheesy and "cheap" in feel had Chris come on board. His pull might have even warranted a bigger budget and scope.

'Harry Potter' director Chris Columbus could have been 'Twilight' director

Catherine Hardwicke wasn't the only one to see the script for 2008's Twilight, it seems. MTV is reporting that Chris Columbus, director of Harry Potter And The Sorceror's Stone and Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets (and enthusiast for Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson and up-coming films Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part I, and Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part II), was passed the script for Twilight as well. Says MTV, Looking at the “Twilight” that could have been, MTV News has learned that two-time “Harry Potter” director Chris Columbus took a glance at the script at the beginning of the adaptation process...

Daniel Radcliffe "Disappointed" by Lack of Darkness in Latest Harry Potter Movie

2 July 2009 6:22 AM, PDT | From Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news

Even though David Yates, the newest director to bring the Harry Potter mythos to life, took the franchise on a dark journey in the previous installment, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the tone is much lighter in the next movie, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Apparently, the new tone did not necessarily sit well with all of the cast members. In a recent interview, Daniel Radcliffe, who plays the titular character, said:

My favourite stuff is always the dark stuff. When I read scripts for the first time that's what I always lean towards and it's what I want to see included – even more so in Harry Potter movies, because we need the films to appeal to adult audiences. In fact one of the things I was disappointed about with the sixth Harry Potter movie was that there wasn't so much of that element. Radcliffe said

Harry Potter Star Emma Watson Surprised by Her Fortune

30 June 2009 7:39 AM, PDT | From Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news

Actress Emma Watson is just 19 years old, but she's earned an estimated £10 million from her recurring role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movie series. Surprised? Apparently, so is Ms. Watson. As a child actor, Watson's contracts and finances were out of her control and she preferred to pretend that the money didn't exist. It wasn't until she turned 18 that she discovered just how much money she had earned.

In a recent interview, Watson said:

My dad never told me how much money I was earning. Then, when I hit 18, he was like, "I want you to understand that your money isn't some kind of abstract concept. I want you to have a feel for what it's worth and what you can do with it." Watson is currently promoting the sixth film in the series, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and filming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,

Emma Watson Will Quit Acting After Harry Potter

29 June 2009 5:40 AM, PDT | From Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news

It seems like professional suicide to step away from a successful acting career to attend college, but that's exactly what Emma Watson plans to do following the conclusion of her Harry Potter duties. Watson hasn't revealed which university she plans on attending, but in an interview with Teen Vogue, she said:

There's not, like, a burning passion in me that I have to act and I don't care what I do. Until something comes along that I feel as strongly about as I did Hermione – like, I felt that it was life or death – I don't want to act again. Watson said that she will study English Literature and that she wants to be just like every other student, even sharing a dorm room: I probably sound like a paranoid nut, but I'm doing this because I want to be normal. I really want anonymity. Watson is currently promoting the sixth film in the series,

Hayden Panettiere Really Naked in 'I Love You, Beth Cooper'

26 June 2009 11:35 PM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

"I Love You, Beth Cooper" won't only test Hayden Panettiere's acting skills in a comedy movie, but also see her showing some skins. Playing the most popular girl in school Beth Cooper, the Claire Bennet of NBC's series "Heroes" confesses that she really is naked in the scene where she drops her towel in a locker room as she tries to impress geeky Denis Cooverman.

"I was really naked," the 19-year-old starlet gushes about her revealing scene when talking to E! Online's Marc Malkin. "I had these little sticky petals on my boobs, but that was about it. My dad calls me such an exhibitionist. He always says, 'God, even when you were little, you were such an exhibitionist!'"

Talking about the nudity issue deeper, Panettiere states that she won't take all her clothes off in front of the camera for now. "I'm cool with my body, and

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince looks to be an excellent rendition

27 May 2009 7:22 PM, PDT | From Twilight Examiner | See recent Twilight Examiner news

J.K. Rowling's sixth Harry Potter book, Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince (starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint) , was perhaps one of the more challenging of the series to be brought to life on the big screen. That's not to say that predecessors Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix were any cake-walk. The books, riddled with imagination, lucid imagery, and exciting, other-worldly adventure, were daunting tasks for their directors to overcome in film-production. Chris Columbus had the largest and most heady obstacle

Twilight banned by Mormon bookstore: beginning of religious backlash?

29 April 2009 3:10 AM, PDT | From Twilight Examiner | See recent Twilight Examiner news

Reports say that Stephenie Meyer’s hit book series was removed from a religious bookstore. J.K.
