When I rent a brazilian film, I expect to see something new, not similar to american films. Bellini e a Esfinge shows us a film very similar (at least it tries to be) to the american films. The great problem is that this is a low budget production, so it doesn't have a good quality of sound or image.
The story itself it's not bad. It's about a detective agency which is hired by a high society man who was attracted by a hooker. Of course many things start to happen as the investigation goes further. I will not say too much because I don't want to tell something that was supposed to be a surprise :-)
99% of the film was shoot in the zone of prostitution in São Paulo. So, if you are not from here, don't think that the whole city looks like what is shown in the film :-)
As I said before, the story is not bad. But the director is awful! Everything in it is a huge cliche, especially the dialogs. Oh, how I wish I could see David Fincher directing this film!
If you, IMDB user, want to see a good brazilian film, try "O Invasor" or "Cidade de Deus". But, please, run away from Bellini e a Esfinge.
