After 'Brüno,' What Does Sacha Baron Cohen Do Next?

With another box-office hit under his belt, the comic actor has plenty of options.

All three of Sacha Baron Cohen's satirical comic creations — the gay Austrian fashionista Brüno, the anti-Semitic Kazakhstani journalist Borat and the clueless hip-hop culture maven Ali G — have now gracelessly graced the big screen. "Ali G Indahouse" actually never made it into U.S. theaters but did enjoy a run in the U.K. In 2006, "Borat" appeared almost out of nowhere to become a box-office smash, eventually taking in almost $130 million domestically. And, over the weekend, "Brüno" earned more than $30 million in ticket sales.

With his three well-known characters seemingly exhausted — and a box-office track record that might give him something close to carte blanche with movie studios — where does Cohen go from here? Here's some wild speculation about avenues he might try to explore. »

Here's your dose of film news for April 23, 2009:

• Kate Mara ("Shooter") and Clark Gregg ("Spartan") are the latest to join Jon Favreau's upcoming sequel "Iron Man 2," which is currently shooting. Gregg will return to reprise his role as S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Agent Phil Coulson. No details have been released regarding Mara's role. (The Hollywood Reporter)

• Kevin Macdonald, who last directed the intriguing thriller "State of Play," is set to direct "The End of Eternity" for New Regency. According to Variety, the film is based on the 1955 Isaac Asimov novel. According to the trade, "Futuristic tale concerns a ruling class called Eternity whose members can manipulate time and alter history." Macdonald also directed "The Last King of Scotland."

• Mark Mylod ("Ali G Indahouse") will direct "What's Your Number?," a comedy starring Anna Faris. The film was previously titled "20 Times a Lady," and the plot »

Written by Matt Goldberg British director Mark Mylod is tired of crushing television comedy with his work on comedies like "Entourage" and "The United States of Tara" (and if everyone could forget "Ali G Indahouse" that would really be for the best) and wants to crush romantic comedies and so has stepped up to direct Anna Faris in "What's Your Number?" The film centers on a woman (Faris) who treks through her sexual past to find Mr. Right, exploring the idea of sexual quotas and whether such numbers matter. His second film, "Borat," among other things featured a scene in which his co-star, Kevin Davitian, laid naked in top of him, forcing him to perform an act we won't even attempt to try euphemizing.
