Average second of a popular series

"Anja & Viktor" is the second of until now three features about the young couple. While the first film, the popular "Kærlighed ved første hik", saw Viktor win the love of the all-round wonder girl Anja, this second installment has him faced with the possibility of losing her again after she moves to the city and gets a job with other male attractions.

"Anja & Viktor" isn't nearly as funny as its predecessor which was in fact quite charming in its own adolescent way. The plot of Anja and Viktor's disjunction has too many dull parts, and previously important side characters like Viktor's two friends are now merely unfunny tagalongs. Awkward and funny situations do appear, but it's mostly too little and too late.

Sure, there are highlights. Both leads perform fairly well, especially Lassen-Kahlke with much charm and some portrayal of a girl's feelings going into a troublesome adulthood. The music and especially the opening credits sequence are elegant stylistic impulses. The fact that the film does change so much from the first trilogy installment is in itself honorable. However, the film is not worth watching more than once, and it does not do very much in general to bring new quality into Danish youth film.
