Kelly Tragedy To Become TV Movie

21 August 2003 | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

The events surrounding the suicide of British weapons expert David Kelly will form the basis of a TV movie to be directed by Peter Kosminsky (White Oleander) -- only it won't air on the BBC, the publicly supported broadcasting corporation which figured in the controversy over Kelly's death. Today's (Thursday) Guardian newspaper said that the docudrama, tentatively titled The Truth Game, will air on Channel 4. Meanwhile, Nicholas Rufford, a writer for the London Sunday Times, told a hearing looking into Kelly's death, that the scientist had called the BBC report concerning what he had said about an intelligence dossier "bullshit" and said that his superiors at the Ministry of Defense had put him "through the ringer" for speaking to the BBC reporter, Andrew Gilligan. Rufford said that Kelly had told him, "I'm a bit shocked. I thought it would all be confidential."

'Chicago' Dominates SAG Nominations

28 January 2003 | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

It's getting hotter and hotter in the Windy City, as the razzle-dazzle musical Chicago made off with five nominations from the Screen Actors Guild Awards, including Best Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. Four members of said cast -- Renee Zellweger, Richard Gere, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Queen Latifah -- nabbed individual nominations as well, leaving only poor John C. Reilly out in the cold. He's in good company, though -- award nominee maven Meryl Streep was noticeably absent from both the lead and supporting races for her work in The Hours and Adaptation (though she's included in the ensemble nominations for both movies). Other surprises included box office hit My Big Fat Greek Wedding supplanting critical favorites Gangs of New York and About Schmidt in the Best Performance by a Cast category, and Michelle Pfeiffer, previously ignored by most critics' groups, grabbing a Supporting Actress nomination for her turn as a murderous mother in White Oleander. Winners will be announced on March 9. Get the entire list SAG Award film nominees in IMDb's Road to the Oscars®.
