6/10
Author: Internet2k4 from United States

As a Canadian film exploring the potential (and lack thereof) for living a real NYC life in Winnipeg, Manitoba, it is heavy lifting from the get go. It features a set of surprisingly competent supporting actors working on the Prairie socialist theory (as opposed to talent-dripping Seinfeld socialism) that a starless group can support each other as an ensemble - it comes off as a Seinfeld knockoff TV pilot.

However, I was interested to watch it through, and this caused me to reflect on how I have rated films 1 to 10. There is a vast library-from-hell of the movies I would never consider watching or would switch off / walk out on after realizing my mistake. If I compare movie watching with the kind of exploratory sexual shenanigans in Inertia, I would say there is a qualitative difference between the bad date ending politely with a handshake or peck at the door and the date you refused to go on, or made that cell phone call from the steakhouse. I've decided that ratings 5 and below are for the massive nether-library of unwatchable films, which I leave to toe-suckers, deep cross-referential film buffs, and cultists. I rated Inertia a 6, as a film I didn't like but wanted to see all the way through.
