If ever there was a game show I loved watching more while screaming abuse at the contestants and making variations on the host's lines, I have definitely forgotten it. The Weakest Link, or The Slickest Wink, as I like to call it, sees me screaming abuse all the time at contestants who think it's so difficult. When voted off, they always go on about how much easier it looks at home and blah blah blah... total rubbish.
If it is so much harder in the studio, have a think about a few things. One, you're getting a free tour of a network television studio. Two, if you live outside of Melbourne, you're getting a free trip to said studio. I also presume you're going to get a free dinner or lunch out of it. What the hell have you got to lose if you miss a few questions, other than pride that can easily be salvaged by treating it like the joke it is?
Some of the questions they get asked are so easy that they might as well hand a selected contestant the prize money on a silver platter. Some of the questions that they miss are so easy that they don't deserve to be there, leave alone win. How anyone could live anywhere other than under a rock and not know the title of the most recently released Star Wars film as of June 2001 is a mystery I will never solve. And get a load of all the passing... the only thing I find more annoying than the contestants who refuse to have a go and at least try to answer the question is those that feel compelled to say "bank" every three answers. The number of times the contestants have missed their $10,000 target just because some idiots said bank every time their name was called even has Cornelia exasperated. Oh, that's one other thing that infuriates me more than over-bankers and passers: people who get everything wrong and then have the nerve to complain they were voted out because the contestants were afraid of them. Take a look next time a contestant of about 6'6" and 250 pounds gets on the show. That's the only kind people are ever really afraid to vote off.
The celebrity specials are much more fun than the regular episodes. At least when the celebrities play the game, they know not to take it so damned seriously. After all, they are called game shows for a reason.
