Trivia:
Some filming for this movie took place on an actual WW2 submarine. The USS Silversides (which is available for tours) located in Muskegon Michigan was towed out into the middle of Lake Michigan where scenes with Bruce Greenwood were filmed. The Silversides had some minor re-painting done (rust coloration), but is now back to her original gray color. The rest of the sets and models used in this movie were all based on the look and layout of the Silversides.

Goofs:
Revealing mistakes: The diving officer orders the boat to periscope depth, then adds, "66 feet." On a WW2 fleet boat, minimum periscope depth was 55 feet, optimum was 58 feet, and maximum was 62 feet. At 66 feet the scope would have been 4 feet under the surface.

Interesting mix of a ghost story, WWII submarine thriller and murder mystery, with a topnotch cast headed by Olivia Williams as a nurse rescued from a torpedoed hospital ship and Bruce Greenwood as a submarine commander with a secret. Must have been a U.S.-U.K. coproduction, since much of the cast is made up of Brits playing Americans, but what the hey. It's a solid production through-and-through. Came out at the same time as the much-ballyhooed GHOST SHIP, with little or no marketing, and thus was overlooked in theaters. A must-see for thriller fans.
