Dictators come and go. Soon, we will be rid of ours. Unfortunately, Spain had to endure theirs for 36 years. This is a story of the atrocities committed by the Franco regime after they defeated the democratically elected government in Spain and were supposedly in an era of peace.

Lucía Jiménez gave a compelling, if unrecognized performance as a girl who came back to her village under the domination of the Fascists. She gets involved with a partisan (Juan Diego Botto), and does her part to help the cause.

It is to no avail, but there always has to be hope. What else has sustained us through eight years of a dictatorship that has ruined our country economically and given us a black eye in the world. Hope runs throughout the story as villagers are killed one by one.

In the end, she leaves after her lover, and the father of her child, is murdered along with her Aunt Teresa, brilliantly played by Mercedes Sampietro.

The absolutely beautiful scenery of Navarre is marred by the blood of patriots.
