John D. Hancock made this film about 30 years after "Let's Scare Jessica To Death", and yet, he hasn't exactly lost his touch. This is rather long (almost 2 hours) but I didn't lose my interest. Tom Kempton is an artist, who draws for animated films, and when his work is getting to him, he takes off for a snowmobiling trip in the great white north somewhere, where he strays away from his two buddies and runs afoul of a couple of weird sisters living in a cabin. They drug him and are ready to butcher him, being that they're cannibals, when his buddies figure out what's up and come to the rescue. One is killed during the escape and both sisters are killed. There's a big to-do on the news, etc. and then life goes on. Now, Tom is a bit on the obsessive side, and talks to the brother of the two sisters, who is in prison, and finds out there was a daughter, who was given up for adoption at age 7, and that she lives somewhere in the area in which HE lives, in California. He does manage to find her and talk her into posing for him, but I wasn't really clear if there was any motive for this other than to find out what she was like. Seems she has a 15 year old son too, who not only beats her, but seems to be carrying on a family heritage up in the hills near their home. There are several twists and turns to this, and there are times where you think it's coming to a close but it moves on to another phase. The last phase is, of course, that someone thought to be dead isn't, and comes to visit. This is a cool little film, and will keep you wondering almost right up until the end. A decent effort although probably in my mind, nothing will ever live up to "Let's Scare Jessica To Death", which is one of my all time favorites. 8 out of 10.
