Eden is the first Amos Gitai film I've watched.. the first and the last. I got many things to do with my time better than wasting it on watching a boring, slow, pretentious, and contemplative film such as this one.
Based on an Arthur Miller's novel, Eden tells the story of some pioneer Jews in Palestine before the creation of Israel State. Putting aside the question of how inconvenient is an argument like that in times of Sharon and the Palestine genocide (when will they make a movie about the Palestine people's tragedy??), the fact is that maybe Miller's novel had any significance (I haven't read it) but it definitely doesn't work as a movie (or as a movie directed by Amos Gitai). With a length of +/- 85 m. , when the movie comes to its (awful) end it seems like you've been there for ten hours. Gitai enjoy himself filming a man shaving himself, or another man packing, or a street with people walking by ... NOTHING. In short: everything is so annoying and desperately slow. No tension, no rhythm, not a thing...
Samantha Morton does it as good as it's expected from her. But it makes no difference: no doubt she's a great actress, but for the good of her career she shouldn't get involved in this kind of crap.
