Steve Gaghan isn.t very consistent. On one hand, he wrote the complex scripts behind Traffic and Syriana. On the other hand, he wrote and directed that really lame movie with Katie Holmes, Abandon. So while hearing his name can pique interest, it doesn.t necessarily bring excitement for a new project. That new project, according to THR, will be an action thriller about an undercover operative who become a Brooklyn beat cop in order to take down a global organization. Gaghan will write and direct. Lionsgate will distribute. This premise sounds a little too 007 for me. The words .global organization. and .deep cover operative. aren.t usually in movies that are, well, good. Instead, this sounds like Gaghan trying to make his version of The Bourne Identity or the new Bond flicks. That.s great and all, but I.d much rather see another talk and plot heavy movie »

"Thor" the movie, already has an opening date (June 17, 2011) but still no lead! Kenneth Branagh is now attached to direct the film, and is working mighty hard to cast his Norse god!
So who have been mentioned for the lead role?
First, we have Josh Hartnett. Why is there a big push to cast him? I have no idea, but apparently, Branagh is considering him for either the role of Thor or his nemesis, Loki.
Then, we have a bunch of unknowns! And I'll post their mini-bio from IMDb, okay? And keep in mind, these actors are all being tossed around for the role of Thor.
Here we go. Charlie Hunnam
Charlie Matthew Hunnam was born in Newcastle, England on April 10, 1980. At 16 years of age, he made guest appearances in the popular TV series "Byker Grove" (1989).
Perhaps his most famous television role has been that of the love-smitten Nathan Maloney »

Nikkie Finke reported yesterday about the upcoming Thor film and how Marvel and director Kenneth Branagh are facing a big challenge in trying to cast the lead character. In her report, she lists some of the candidates in the running to wield Mjolnir and become the God of Thunder.
Interestingly, she also points out that they are considering Josh Hartnett not only for the role of Loki, the God of Mischief, but to play The Mighty Thor himself. Now, I can see him giving an interesting performance as Loki but my suspension of belief doesn’t extend to him playing Thor.
While there’s some desire by Marvel to see Hartnett or another recognizable actor to play Thor, there’s also a lot of interest in casting an unknown. Personally, I don’t know which would be best for this movie but I liked the idea of casting a relatively »

Stephen Gaghan is set to write the big-screen adaptation of Jon Stock’s spy novel “Dead Spy Running” for Warner Bros.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the story "begins with the protagonist running the London Marathon, where a fellow racer is strapped with explosives. The scenario leads to a globe-trotting adventure to clear the name of the man's father."
McG will direct "Spy," which is the first film in a trilogy. Think of it as a new kind of "The Bourne Identity" spy thriller.
Gaghan's writing credits include "Traffic" and "The Alamo." He also directed "Abandon" and "Syriana."
As for McG, he's currently in post-production for “Terminator Salvation.” His directing credits also include “We Are Marshall” and the two “Charlie’s Angels” flicks. »

Stephen Gaghan, who penned the screenplay for Steven Soderbergh’s Traffic and wrote and directed Syriana, has signed on to adapt Dead Spy Running, an espionage novel that McG is attached to direct for Warner Bros. Based on a book by British author Jon Stock, the film is meant to be the first in a trilogy and aims to reinvent the spy genre by telling the origin story of a newly trained spy in a tone that mixes the grittiness of The Bourne Identity with the wittiness of John Le Carre (The Tailor of Panama). Spy, to be published in June, begins with the protagonist running the London Marathon, where a fellow racer is strapped with explosives. The scenario leads to a globe-trotting adventure to clear the name of the man's father. McG, who would direct at least the first installment, is producing with Jeanne Allgood via their Warners-based Wonderland Sound and Vision. »
