Catherine Zeta-Jones is hottest ticket as she debuts on Broadway

28 November 2009 4:07 PM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

The revival of a Sondheim musical with a very British flavour lures recession-hit New York audiences back to the theatre

She made her stage debut as the lead in Annie at the Swansea Grand Theatre at 12. Now, 28 years later, the Hollywood star Catherine Zeta-Jones is again treading the boards, although in slightly more grandiose surroundings.

Zeta-Jones, 40, will make her first appearance on Broadway next month when the curtain goes up on Sir Trevor Nunn's eagerly awaited revival of the Stephen Sondheim musical A Little Night Music. Preview performances at the Walter Kerr theatre began last week in advance of the opening night on 13 December and tickets, which are being sold on eBay for as much as $300, are like gold dust.

In the production Zeta-Jones, who plays the part of a flamboyant actress called Desiree Armfeldt, sings one of Sondheim's most famous songs, "Send in the Clowns". Although there have »

Wentz 'couldn't write after son was born'

9 November 2009 10:18 PM, PST | digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news »

The Fall Out Boy rocker, who became a dad for the first time last November, stated that he is amazed by how much parenthood has affected his songwriting. I think it made me look at the world in a different way. We have a very selfish culture, and we all embrace it, and that's what 'I Don't Care' was supposed to be about, and what 'America's Sweethearts' was supposed to (more) »

Does Anyone Like Julia Roberts?

23 March 2009 10:02 AM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

I have a confession to make: I like Julia Roberts.

Boy, it feels good to get that off my chest, even if admitting it makes me the kind of girl that the Guardian's Jeremy Kay sees as lining up for Duplicity to remember being as "touched [as] after watching Pretty Woman for the very first time." Julia Roberts has banned her kids from becoming child stars.

The Pretty Woman star's niece Emma Roberts forged a successful career as a child actress, including a role alongside her aunt in 2001 movie America's Sweethearts.

But the Oscar winner wants her own kids with husband Danny Moder, twins Hazel and Phinnaeus, four, and Henry 21 months, to wait until they are older.

She tells Moviefone.com, "My first instinct is that I would prefer if my children wanted to be artists that they wait, you know, that they just wait - as long as they can." »

Who's the Next Big Female Movie Star?

9 March 2009 2:15 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Julia Roberts has yet to be surpassed. Back in September of last year I asked Who's the Next Big Male Movie Star? At the time Robert Pattinson Fever had spread all over the Internet and the conversation resulted in a wasted experiment as commenters weren't able to have a real debate. However, a few people did ask for a similar feature for the females and I have finally gotten around to putting it together. With the males the name I was looking at in comparison was Will "Guaranteed Box-Office Gold" Smith. With the females I was unable to come up with a name that lives up to the career Julia Roberts put together and she remained my muse. When Pretty Woman came out in 1990 Julia was 22-years-old and had just starred in and won a Golden Globe for Steel Magnolias. Over the following nine years she worked her way into »
