There are only a few movies I like: usually I don't like horror movies, many of them I find just depressing or even stupid, with very few exception. I could like a dark tale. I do not like movies with gratuitous violence, blood etc. Well...'Devilman: The Birth' ,it's absolutely unmissable. The extreme ,'in your face' ugliness of the monsters, reflect ,ironically, our very world and reality. The movie is very strong on emotional content ,the way it's acted. And the perfect dubbing I have watched : the Italian dubbing. So powerful and gripping. I am not saying that the Italian dubbing is great because I am Italian: I can make various examples of really bad Italian dubbing, but this one is SO good. The voices appear like they really belong to the story and characters. I have heard that the American dubbing is very bad,I do not know myself, since I have not heard the American dubbing, but if this is true,an absolute classic has been weakened considerably...if the dubbing is too 'wimpy' ,or weak,or it does not stays true to the exact 'spirit' of the roles of each actor,it can be enough to dilute a great movie like a watery wine,if you catch my drift. This movie, and the one that followed, have impressed me greatly,so much that I wanted to review scenes while I was watching, and I was glued to the chair for the whole running time (which sadly is rather short at 50 minutes....good things never come too many!) Thoroughly recommended...a masterwork of Japanese animation!
