First off, I'm a HUGE Hendrix fan and anything of him on celluloid is something I intend to see, even by accident, such is how I caught this film of the greatest guitarist who ever lived. I suppose if I never remembered this "biography" of a music legend, then naturally this couldn't have been a memorable portrayal, and it clearly isn't. I am a bit surprised how negative the responses are, although I do agree that this somewhat sub-par film lacks anything original that us fans didn't already know about Jimi Hendrix, but still there were some good moments here, which I'll get to shortly. Hendrix may be a better picture for the novice fan, but I'll assume many here are Jimi junkies and we've seen what this film gives us; such as Monterrey Pop, Woodstock, and too many songs that took up too much time to let us know more about the legendary icon we all know and love. Instead of having to hear close to an entire song, there could have been more time spent getting to know the man and his motivations, but that didn't happen for the most part, and that is what bogged this film down.
Some of the better moments include how the black panthers tried to recruit Hendrix, and that he genuinely tried to appease everyone with his music, but he was pulled in different directions that he seemed a prisoner. I liked the scene with he and Little Richard, although I thought Hendrix left that band, but this film tells us that he was fired, but I digress.
Finally, I find it difficult to fathom that this is basically the only mainstream(if you will)film about one of the greatest icons in music history; he did too much in his life to only warrant a 2hr feature anyway.
